Well when someone recently asked about how to get a Pam franken skeleton with him showing the pict of the watch, he was slammed by one of the oldies on the forum(P.com).

Then someone chime in and mentioned that the skeleton depicted belongs to Hammer who had help from tourby to get it done.

Immediately the oldie reposted apologising that he didn't know it belongs to Hammer and went on to say if its Hammers' its fine and cool.

Don't you think that a load of bull?

so apparently a homage and a rep are not on the same calibre because a homage is a rep of a ww2 watch.

what a bunch of deluded idiots with too much money on their hands

If the most important aspect of the difference between homage and replica is that a homage is worked on by the owner then there are a lot of homage watches here...
No, really, that sounds like looking for an excuse to play with replica watches. We´re lucky enough that we don´t need excuses for our watches. Poor wealthy Risti fellows.

Yeah, those guys are WAY off base. An homage watch would be something that looks like/is inspired by a Panerai, but doesn't use any copyrighted/trademarked elements. However, Panerai has patented/protected it's crown guard system, so anything using a PAM-style CG can't be just an homage.

Regardless, they include/allow whatever they want and flame whatever they want, with little apparent logic. A big reason I don't waste much time in the public forum area, just the FS areas...

They have always been like that. A lot of them are closet rep owners and many visit this and other forums secretly. They still look down their nose at people who own and wear reps openly though. Reminds me of the TV preachers that get caught with hookers.

"Oh wait! We weren't having sex I was just trying to teach her about the bible...........naked...................with her tied to the bed...................and..............and............What? Why am I wearing a leather spiked collar and carrying a whip? Well...........you see.........we were talking about the slaves in Egypt and she had questions, so...................What? Um, the midget? He is playing the part of the donkey. What? Yes I know that donkeys didn't have sex with the slaves in Egypt. Yes, I am aware of the fact that that is in Mexico. No, I have never been to Tijuana.............What?.... No, that is not a replica Panerai. No it is a homage watch. Well, yes there is a difference. What? No, I don't think that the other Paneristi will be happy about any of this. Well, no I don't think the midget or the hooker care about the difference. Yes, I am sure they have never even heard of Panerai. Huh? Yes, I think it is time to stop typing this out.

I just discovered RWI about a month ago and have been a lurker here over that time and over at Paneristi for quite some time.

I think anyone, whether a staunch advocate of reps or genuine, who flame others deserve......FLAMING!

Whether the watch is a genuine or a replica is irrelevant, each person will utilize it for different purposes. Posers on either forum I find rather boorish as they are OCD typically. (If I just flamed anyone, it was unitentional .. LOL)

I have several genuine watches (6 Panerais, 2 Rolex, 1 Patek, 1 Bell & Ross and 1 Suunto(LOL)) and am beginning to acquire a few replicas with which I won't have to be so careful while traveling, playing golf or out for a night on the town. If I ever get flamed over on Paneristi (I haven't posted there, only purchased) I will take it in stride and that person can feel dominant from an anonymous location for all I care. I buy watches for me, not them and I mostly enjoy the various levels of craftmanship one can witness first hand in a finely made mechanical wristwatch.

For the record, some of the replicas on your wrists were manufactured with more care than many genuines. Peace.

I am going to be meeting up with the OP (Fongaroos) on that Paneristi.com post this weekend in Boston for some drinks and dinner. I will be wearing my BK Yachty and getting the rundown on his up-coming "homage" project.

Our friend, and recent gen Paneristi, Asad has made several versions of "homage/rep pieces andthey have come out beautifully. Any Paneristi would have loved to have been the one to put those together and post them first. He did it and got some heat from some over there. If it were one of the regular posters on that site to post them first, they would have been held on a pedestal and probably allowed to sell in their Collectors Market.

I just don't get it sometimes.

I did not notice this thread before, Thanks all for such kind words. I would like to say in very simple terms that Paneristi's are very arrogant individuals, I had posted this post there:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/t ... 016673/PAM
(A few weeks ago, and I can happliy say that a lot of people liked what they saw and some were shocked by it)
I recived a few E-Mails from some of the common members from Paneristi, that if they see me wearing that to one of there gay orgy G2G's, they will rape me, I got a laugh out of it. Though I can easily say that was the very least minority of the people as a lot really liked it and still are filling up my E-Mail box asking how I did it.

At TimeZone (Which is a cummunity full of young, daddys money individuals ran by young rednecks who banned me a couple of times):
http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t= ... &rid=64060
I got an overwhelming response in my P.M box from people around the world asking if they can buy one off me. Though the mods had messaged me stating that; they would have deleted my post if it had any logo on it.

So all in all I can say is that they all don't hate homages but out of arrogance tend to dislike the thought that they paid thousands of dollars for a product that should not cost more than a few hundred.

Thanks

I think it is funny that you say all of that. I was just having a conversation with my wife about peoples attitudes towards reps, homages and gens the other day. We both, after a while, agreed that the people that get the most offended by reps and/or homages are the ones that don't have the money to really afford the watches they already own. For example, a guy that owns one or maybe 2 gen Panerai and joins the ranks of the Paneristi is going to be far more likely to get upset about reps and/homages than some guy that owns 10 Panerai and various other watches. The ten gen guy could probably care less about reps/homages because they really don't effect him. The two gen guy or really the average owner probably has a lower income and maybe can't afford as much as these other guys, therfor hi-end reps and homages scare them and make them believe or feel some sort of percieved loss in value for their watches. Just like the guys using daddy's money could care less because the watches don't have as much value in the first place for them.

I think it all boils down to the guys that think their watches make them special. They think that reps and homages are taking away something from them personally because they have placed so much importance on their watch making them important. When the guys that just like watches (like most of us) just enjoy everything for what it is. If it is cool it is cool, if it isn't then it isn't.

Here is another one:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/t ... +project...

and my response there (Focus on the last paragraph):
I am sorry if some of you had found my post to be on the border line:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/t ... 016673/PAM

I own many original pieces AKA (Rolex Sub, Breitling Chrono Avenger, Omegas Seamasters and Speedmasters) and made my Homage out of love for this brand, But at the time (a few months ago I had an itch to get a original Panerai) But at that time I could not afford it, So i made it and justified to many here and even got some hate mail from some individuals who were shocked at how I did it. Please forgive me if that post in anyway, had hurt your feeling. In making some thing yourself has alot more sentiment rather you picking up some thing that is put together and is ready made for you to just pickup.

Also please don't be offended as I consider myself a Paneristi now as I just bought my first original Panerai out of my true respect for the style and heritage Panerai.

But I would like to argue something with who ever can answer me. Is'nt Panerai them selves replicating. they get there base movements from a ETA factory which is else where and put together a watch which honestly took me less than 15min, Yes there parts are polished to a higher level and yes they fit together flush perfect (Actually I have seen some posts recently with people asking about some gaps in there bezel or crown guard from factory). So where is the quality control and in us justifying paying soo much for watch that is soo simple and eaasy to make ourselves, I guess a sterile envorment can justify the couple of grand? (Pleae don't be offended as I love my Panerai).

Thanks and mods please don't delete my post,Just Edit it.

You're either a gen buyer or a rep buyer for the most part. Both parties want that damn Panerai logo on there so they can feel special. Why won't anyone admit that?

I actually don't want that logo, my homages without all that text look to be more simple than a panerai with all that crapping text. LOL. But yes thats how I like it.

I only want the logo on my PAM 005 or 195. ON most other models it is a dead giveaway.
