I changed the date on my Sub C while hour hand between 10 and 3 and something must have snapped as date does not change automatically anymore.

When I move time forward I still hear a CLICK as if date was changing but overlay does not go forward!

Is this a good or bad sign?

Am I better off servicing, or swapping movement altogether or neither?
This was cheapy, only paid like $100 for it, so eventually was going to buy a new v2 anyway.

But I'm still gutted because I want to keep it to practice basic mods (dial and hand changing etc.)

Of servicing costs more than the watch I may just forget it.

Any expert opinions?

Practise movement swap :)

20$ buys you a new movement and then you can use the old one to practise on :)

Oh man, That is a rookie mistake. We've all been there before with one thing or another. You live and learn.

Indeed!!!!

Well if $20 buys me a new movement, than this is not such a tragedy!! But really? That cheap?

Well, I have learnt a VERY important lesson today! :)

Thanks! I will be looking into new movements.

Capt., that IS a rookie mistake. What kind of movement is it though? That said, I have done the same thing three in the past 7 months (You'd think I would learn!!!). Once on a BCE with A7750 and another time on my franken with a gen Breitling B13 (swiss eta 7750) movement. I also did once on an A2836.

If you're willing to experiment, you can try removing and reinstalling the stem, which should take all of ten minutes. That fixed the issue altogether on my A2836. I tried the same trick on the A7750 and swiss 7750. In one case, it didn't do a thing. In the other, it got the quickset back online, but the date started changing over at 9:48pm instead of 12:00am. For both 7750's, I had to have my local watch smith reset the keyless works. On the 7750's it cost me $100 (although I had the clone fully serviced for an extra $75). It should cost less than that on a 2824/36. If it's a 21J without any funky complications, just order a gen miyota movement from ofrie for around $35.00 and you're good to go.

There are some tutorials that will show you how to reset the keyless works yourself, but I havent' had a ton of luck doing my own work on movements-so I now leave it up to the experts. :) If you're willing to be adventurous, kudos to you! Good luck!

I might follow the Dr's initial advice.
I'll buy a cheap movement and then begin practicing on this one.

It's true, the only way of learning something sometimes is to f*$k something up!
