Hi guys,
I've been looking into getting the pam243 and have been considering getting the a7750 version vs the swiss 7750. On different TD sites that carry the a7750 version, some list it as 1:1 with all parts interchangeable while others list all parts except for the hands and movement as being interchangeable with OEM. Why the discrepency? I am asking in case I decide to switch out the movement later with a swiss version.

Thanks!

The 7750 in the 243 is a 7750-P1 model, a very rare, custom modified ETA made only for the Panerai

"Valjoux 7750-P1
From Watches Wiki

Valjoux 7750-P1
Caliber by Valjoux/ETA

Self-winding movement with 21 jewels, ball-bearing rotor, unidirectional winding, 28,800 A/h, power reserve ca. 42 hours. This is a very rare variant of the Valjoux 7750, here without chronograph module.
The caliber is used exclusively by Officine Panerai in a number of models "

So if you are planning to go swiss you might be money ahead to buy with a swiss.
The standard 7750s cost about $450 and then you will need to have it modded to P1 configuration (have the chrono removed). You will also need to source new subdial hands as the A7750 sub hands will not fit the ETA subdial.

Why the discrepency?.... I cant answer that

Maybe you will find that those who say the ETA and Asian 7750 are interchangeable offer the PAM243 with Asian or Swiss options, and those that say are not only offer the Asian 7750 option. I have read that you can swap in an ETA 7750 for the Asian but it was for an IWC 3717 (and it has the complete 6, 9, 12 dial configuration as per the standard 7750).

I really don't see the need to use an ETA movement. The Asian 7750 is not as unreliable as it was and after a proper servicing, will run just fine. By the time you need it conks out, just swap another Asian 7750 in for much less.

Thanks guys. Awesome information! I guess I'll go with the A7750.
