sold a strap today to a guy here in Silicon Valley...met him for a coffee...what does he wear....a gen Fiddy.
he runs an online Casino....nice guy....paid for my coffee.
anyways...he did let me play with his watch a bit....nicely made....but i was not impressed at all....
the comparison to Dvdsns ultimate Fiddy....nicer finish, more filigrane deco, finer engraving of Panerai on mvmnt.....precise CG with precise lever, AR coating - colour differnt....in sun - not bad.....but 10.000 USD ??

The Davidsen rep is really awesome!
Still I wonder if they made them the way Davidsen does, and the counterfeit would look like the gen does, if all guys on TZ would call the copy junk crap... :roll:

Panerai is sorta a secret 'prestige' symbol thingamajig. Great that he can justify the 10 grand for a PAM.
I can't justify paying that much for a slightly modified watch with a unitas mov't..
At work, people think that I got a 'promotional watch' for free from the "PANERA" bakery down the road... :lol:

My experience exactly, I work in mens fashion design and see quite a few high end Pams around. I like Panerai for the shape, heritage and design; other high end brands (IWC for example) look to have way more value in their watches.

It's like in clothes; the company I work for get their knitwear made to the same specs and in the same Scottish factory as Hermes, but theres a HUGE difference in sticker price. Raw materials and craftmanship are it seems on a tiny part of the current Panerai picture.

To use an analogy from clothing; Panerai need to watch they don't become like Levi. Levi have the most amazing heritage of design and manufacture, but since the 80's they have pissed it away thinking marketing beat product. The fact is these days if you want great pair of selvage jeans you buy Japanese; Sugar Canes, Samurai, Flat Head etc.

Fashion houses don't understand integrity only margins and branding - an example being Churches shoes, which are a pale shadow in grain corrected leather since Prada bought them.

My Gen 112 isn't a million miles better visually than a good Davidsen rep (which from what I understand is built to order not pulled bubble wrapped off the shelf like many) and the retail prices of both are much closer. Actually the Davidsen keeps better time!
