Hello everyone,
I haven’t been spending much time here lately unfortunately due to a heavy schedule. Every now and then I try to bring something to your attention that would really worth your while. This is not a usual suspect that I come across all the time. The 005, 000, 111, 026 from the Panerai family are the everyday heroes I work with but a pre-A 004 is something else that really deserves some special attention.
Let me start off by saying that this is a Gen pre-A 004 and was sent over to me from Hong Kong by a guy who I have done work for on many watches (mainly restoration from A-Z).
As you can see from the pictures following bellow time had taken its toll on the watch coating and separate pars from the case had (past tense already) relatively deep dents.
The watch was first completely disassembled; the old coating stripped off; all dents and inconsistencies were removed (it does sound easy but it is a procedure that takes over 2 days); all parts were then DLC coated with the Panerai signature pencil lead color. The caseback was also refinished by reapplying the original satin finish on it. The movement undertook a complete overhauling… it was completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled, assembled, and then regulated.
Enough talking…. I have broken down and documented the transformation from start to finish going through the various stages the watch went through. Right now the watch looks not mint… brand new.
Enjoy….
Like it was just taken outside the box for a first time…
And let the tear-down begin....
