Paypal and ebay are the biggest scammers ever, I wonder why they have no real competitors...

It's the unfortunate truth.

Plus they charge FVF on whatever you charge for shipping too.

Amazon is no better, mind you.

Add in the bias towards buyers that ANY of the above sites have...

And Craigslist is filled with scammers and unreliable scum.

Selling things online has become increasingly difficult over time.

I couldnt agree more... 4.5% of paypal was really big for me, just for being in the middle of the seller and buyer, but 9% from ebay for doing absolutely nothing? 9%????? Come on!!! I really cant believe it.......

Ebay f**ked me and didn't even give me the courtesy of a reach around when I sold my car earlier this year. $750 in fees. I hate ebay!

Edit: forgot to mention paypal got theirs too.

but 9% from ebay for doing absolutely nothing?

I disagree here. Granted their fees are high, but they ARE providing a sales forum which does not exist anywhere else. Without them, you wouldn't have made the sale at all.

With all due respect i feel more safe to sell something in this forum than ebay. Not to mention in case something goes wrong the support i will get is bigger and better...
Regarding watch related items of course...

If you get a loan the tax would be lets say 5-6%... There is absolutely no reason and justification in their fees for me...

The have become famous, because of us and our usage, and now they are taking advantage of us... That is simply unacceptable!

If there was more competition in that area they would cry like babies losing their customers on by one...

I agree with you here as well. I'm not on their side. I'm just reminding everyone that they are in business to turn a profit. It's up to the user to be informed about the fees and decide for themselves if they are willing to pay those fees and use their service. Many still do. And if there is demand for a service, the supply can come at whatever cost they so choose. For some sellers and certain products, I'm sure eBay is the ONLY option to get rid of an item. And that opportunity simply (and unfortunately) comes at a high price. They charge the fee because they can.

They have charged about 9% fvf for some time now.

I used to trade a lot of iPhones and would normally have sold them on a fixed price listing, as the fees used to be lower than those on a proper auction style listing. They then changed the fees to be the same for all listings and at that point I said bye-bye to Ebay.

I think, for us in the UK, the charges are/were approx 9% on final value up to a maximum of £40, and as most of my phones were selling between 350 and 400 I was getting ripped every time.

There is a sneaky way round this, by kindly asking the buyer once in receipt of the goods and happy with them, to agree to cancel the transaction, which in turn recredits any fvf's into your account. This is however against EBay policy.......surprise surprise! Doesn't work with all buyers obviously.

You guys are insane!

eBay is cheap. It seems like you guys have no experience with auction houses. I have bought hundreds of items from auctions long before eBay existed. The buyers premium is often 15% or HIGHER, 20-22% is common. So when eBay came along, it was them who was providing the competition into the auction market!

They are providing a marketplace and charging a fee for their service.

always thought it was 10%!, they do provide protection if things go tits up,BUT i have been a little sneaky with regarding fees, i email the buyer offering them half the money in fees if they end the transaction saying they have returned item or did not want it, which 95% do, they win i win ebay lose! its done in automated emails in minutes.

i agree with this, although cos of the size of the maket place and sheer volume of the same item, it has driven prices down in general so the percentage seems more harsh, as value of item as price is lower, good topic to the op!:)

Yes that is true, i saw it yesterday too.
I think best solution is indeed fifty fifty split of the fees after canceling the transaction...

Because people were selling things for $0.99 but charging fair market value for the item in the shipping, just to get away from the FVF.
