The Viet 6538 red depth 3-6-9 dial
Hello gents, here is a project that made me particularly happy
A friend contacted me because he wanted to improve his 6538 build.
It was a high end build already, and I can attest it was built professionally, but he wanted something more. He wanted a red depth 3-6-9 dial and, most difficult, he wanted to add some character.
Here is the parts list I got to work on:
Phong Case with correct engraving 6538A
Phong insert with red triangle
Clark hours and minutes hands
Tiger Lolipop white second hands
Gen plexi
Phong crown and tube
Phong dial (swapped)
Gen Spring Bars
Supergrade Certina Powermatic 80 (Löw best, modified so it doesn’t hack, PR 80 hours)
Each part was disassembled and reworked to a greater detail with a specific aging technique, for example bezel was spotted with a chemical in order to darken it in an uneven way, hands were brushed, relumed and aged, seconds hand was rusted, plexi was aged as well and so on.
For a while we discussed about swapping in a thin font grey triangle insert which was period correct, but in the end we opted for the beautiful insert with red triangle and serif fonts.
All in all I think the result is organic and credible, I quite like it.
That's all for now, hope you enjoyed.
