Hi,

You can easily recognize a fake 6497H from the wrong blue fonts of "OFFICINE PANERAI" at the back.
Does the 6497G have any obvious flaws comparing to the gen?

Thank you,
Eleley

Well, the E/F/G "grafitti" movement is *less* obvious than the H/I/J movement with the CdG decoration, but it is still obviously a rep movement to someone "in the know". If it's a Swiss based movement, it will use the incorrect to gen Novodiac shock protection and have the straight balance wheel spokes. The Asian based uses the correct Incabloc shock protection and has the correct flared spokes on the balance wheel. However the finishing/engraving on the bridges of BOTH versions of this rep movement are several steps below the finishing of the gens.

vaccum wrote a fantastic review of these two movements. I'll copy and paste it here, as his section is down temporarily. I hope you don't mind vac. If you do just let me know and I'll edit this post. [smilie=alien.gif]

Once again I decided to post this pictorial because of the lots of emails I receive everyday asking wich is the best movement....here we go...............

I took a Davidsen real "swiss" H series and a New asian swanneck H series

Dial side "swiss" vs. New asian

Look at the decoration and the shock protection system used.
The swiss has the Novodiac system (cheaper version)
The asian has the more expensive Incabloc. Both made by the same company. :D

Bridges side "swiss" vs. New asian

Both fonts are thinner and better finish overall.

My vote goes to the New asian swanneck movement......you decide wich one you want.

I know these are pictures of the H/I/J CdG movement, but I think the same holds true for the E/F/G movements, regarding the shock protection used. The overall finishing and engraving of the bridges and decoration of the wheels is head and shoulders above our rep movements. But, that's why Panerai pays SOPROD all that money to decorate and finish them, I suppose.
