Hi all,
I would like to have a 5712 built with all the possible upgrades.
What's your suggestion for the right modder/dealer for such a project?
Thank you
Thank you so much for all this insight. There are many different options when it comes to modding a 5712 - they can range from as simple as just changing the moonphase disc to a full case / bracelet / dial / movement overhaul or even a franken that can run into thousands of dollars.
I think the general consensus for modding seems to be either:
1. Just get a stock PPF v1 and change the moon disc. This is cheapest option, but still looks decent though the functions will not work. Add in the cost of a service and you're all in at under $1500. Note: the v1 (if you can still find it) was recently on sale for under $400, so all in it could come to under $1000.
2. Go fully modded with the latest PPF with clone movement. Install a SW dial, custom moon, transplant the hands/ markers to bevelled, white gold plated PPF hands & markers for more sparkle, thin the case to gen spec, fix and repolish the bezel and bracelet, and decorate the movement with engraved plates. This will run you around $2500 and is probably the most I would think about spending on a watch with no gen parts. This option gets you as close to gen as possible without installing a gen dial & hands.
3. Similar to option #2 except with a CNC case and ACE movement with gold rotor. Benefit here is the movement plate engravings look a little nicer (tho still easily identifiable as rep) and you may get better winding efficiency thanks to the heavier gold rotor. The gold rotor is unfortunately not well finished with the ACE and the movement seems to not be any more reliable. This option will cost a few thousand more and unfortunately it does not improve the look of the watch on the wrist (particularly if you use the SW hands), so the general consensus is you're better off saving your money and going with option 2.
4. Franken - If you are willing to spend more, installing a gen dial & hands is as close as you can get (dial-side up anyways). This is the priciest and riskiest option. Not sure if you can fit one to the PPF, so you may need the CNC case and ACE movement. This option will easily cost more than the price of a gen Rolex - well north of $10k.
There are plenty of reputable modders here on RWI. Best to look up examples of their work and see what suits you best in terms of options & prices.
I have a fully modded 5712 (option 2) coming in a few weeks - I'll be posting a detailed review with photos when it arrives.

Where did you get your ACE movement? How much with the 22k gold rotor?
Thanks for the detailed answer.Plenty of TD's have them. Please check the TD section of the site and contact a few to see what mods they offer. Here is one example from Chazingtime:
CUSTOM MODDED NAUTILUS 5712 SS SWF 1:1 BEST EDITION BLUE DIAL ON SS BRACELET VSV SUPER CLONE - Chazingtime
5712 Mod List : PPF Base Watch , SWF Custom Dial , SWF Custom Hands , Moveable Endlinks , Full 3chazingtime08.io
CT's site gives you a several options, such as:
- the base PPF watch with the SW Dial, SWF Hands, Moveable Endlinks, 3 Hands Cannon Pin Mods for $1288
- another option with the above mods plus the engraved movement plates for $1688
- another with the above mods plus the VSV/ ACE movement for $3188
- and finally one with the mods, the movement and the gold rotor for an additional $800 (so total $3998).
All of the above information is just for illustration purposes, I didn't personally buy from CT (I went through another well-known modder on the site). Nothing wrong with going with CT, he is a trusted dealer on RWI. That said, If you do a little research you might find that you can typically get better results from other modders for similar amounts. For example, in my case, I didn't like the SW hands (too white), so I went with another modder who could fix that issue.
My 2-cents: I personally wouldn't spend the additional $2000 ($2800 with the gold rotor) on the movement, particularly when you can get a fully modded watch with decorated movement for that amount (with change to spare), but as always YMMV.
