Since I don't know Orient, what brand can this be compared to qualitywise?

Orient is much like Citizen or even Seiko. Been around a long time. Have a vintage Orient myself.

They have been around since 1950 [company founded in Tokyo] - They're great watches, like Kay said, they compare to Seiko, they make their own movements AFAIK and they're extremely reliable.

I have a blue Mako (and a couple of other Orients) and it is one of my top ten everyday watches. It looks and wears great.

Two things-

1. I blame you LMR for enticing me to buy another watch.....picked up the Blue Mako!
2. I thank you LMR for the 50% discount code!

:)

My pleasure!
I own a couple and just ordered a couple more because they really are a top-quality beater. But I only buy them when they put out a 50% discount offer.

BTW - the free gift in the past was a watch band sizing tool. Don't know what it will be this time, but probably the same.
Today I got the Pepsi Mako1 plus a Ladies auto for my fiance'. I'll do a quick comparo of the Mako1 and Mako2, but I honestly haven't found many watches better than the Mako2 at any price.

FYI - the original Mako (the one that starts at $190) is 41mm and has a larger/more protruberant pusher at 2:00.
The Mako2 (the one that starts at $250) is 45mm and has a more subtle pusher at 2:00. The blue sunray dial on my Mako2 is beyond what pictures can capture.
Lume is not great on these watches. Seiko wins that challenge. Fit and finish are impeccable.

I'm sure their other watches are truly great for the money as well, but I only have experience with their divers. Note that they do not make movements with many complications, so the watches with subdials will show military time, day or week, etc. Chronos only available in their quartz models.

Unfortunately no shipping to Canada, but fortunately I've just saved some money.
