Here's a few macro shots I snapped of this evening of my new 449 SLC, others have been asking about this watch and how it is. Bought this one from PsychoSpike and it arrived today. I am by no means a PAM expert, but I'll try and give you some ideas as to how this watch is before you decide to pull the trigger on one, so here it is -
Already I think my crown is not screwing down quite as snug as it could, minor adjustment of the stem, I'm not brave enough to do that, so looks like that will stay as it is.
Movement looks great, you can't see it here but the grain on the main two plates doesn't quite line, right side has a little of an angle on it, no big deal but its there.
Finish is really something, the teeth on the 449 are much smoother than my 292, which has actually grazed where it pushes against my wrist, not a problem here though.
a couple of dial shots to gauge the depth of the sandwich dial, I'm no expert so feel free to comment on how it looks -
SLC engraving -
back case -
Case finish and polish are really good, I did however catch one or two little scratches here and there, nothing cape cod wouldn't fix though, strange as it did come with a rubber case cover on it.
finally a couple of the buckle -
I am as I said by no means a Panerai expert, I do however love the brand, especially the Radiomir's for me, I spent a couple of weeks on a project in Chernobyl, Ukraine a few years ago so all things relating to radium and radioactivity interest me greatly.
The watch is a nice piece, I'm sure you guys can pick out the flaws, the strap is cardboard as someone else said but its wearable, certainly until I can find something better. If anyone can point me to the closest possible aftermarket strap for this I would be very grateful as I would like to keep it all how it is.
I Imagine this is very close to the 448 in terms of build, apart from some engraving and the dial anyway, I hope this gives some of you some info before you decide to buy one, feel free to ask me any questions.
Cheers!!
