372 owners: how's plexie holding?

Fellow PAM lovers!

I love my 111 en 390, but now i think it's time to move up to something bigger. I'm torn between the 127 and the 372.

Making up my mind to wait for the re-release of the 127 or go for the 372. Both is not possible for the moment.

One thing i would like you to ask: how is the plexie on the 372 holding. Do you notice scratching is a problem compared to crystal? Does it scratch easily? If so, does it bother? Or does it give character?

Thanks!

I just posted about this on repgeek. i got a 249 homage in the mail today. Bumped it on the brickwork while I was tying my dogs to a post and scratched the crap out of it. Gave it a good work over with polywatch and got most of it out but still… Just hope this doesn't happen too often. Would it stop me from getting a 372 in future? No.

Is this a common problem with rep PAM's in which the crystal scratch's easily?

after some weeks of being very careful with 372 (from PC) to avoid scratches on plexi - I turned to "don't care mode". After some bumps I am finding 372's plexiglass surprisingly hard and scratch proof.

Its plastic to resemble the vintage model. Scratches are inevitable and they give the vintage look to the watch.

If it is sapphire crystal - even on a rep - it is on par with gen when it comes to "scratch it easy" ;)

Thank you for answering my question.

A friend of mine who has rep PAM's told me not to get PAM;s bigger than 44mm because the crystal "explodes". I asked him what he meant. He told me the crystal on some PAM rep watches literally explode when they are subject to different temperature conditions such as wearing it outside on a cold day in the winter and than going into a heated building. Is my friend pulling my leg and yanking my chain?

I have several watches with plexi crystals. Yes, they're easier to scratch than sapphire, but harder to break. Scratches usually polish out unless they're deep - I just feel it's part of the ageing process of the watch anyhow and don't worry about 'em

Some types of domed crystal can just go pop (and it's not only the larger ones). Sapphire is more likely to go that way as it's harder and there's less 'give' in it. Can be caused by pressure changes or just a badly mounted crystal - isn't exactly a common event though.

Thanks. How tough is it to find a replacement crystal for a badly scratched crystal or one that explodes. Are replacement crystals readily available.

Depends on the watch - some are easier to obtain than others.

I have a 372 and no issues so far with scratching. I am fairly careful with most of my watches so I try not to bang them against the desk etc. I think that unless you're constantly scraping it against something, you'll be fine. Not to worry!
