Soooo . Not replicas but I recently built 2 Tudor Oysterdate’s . Very nice they were/are , 1st sold and second almost complete ready for sale . 1st watch I’ve tackled , although I had started collecting parts for my Submariner rep , after a Tudor oysterdate Jumbo case (overpriced damaged piece of junk) was lost in the post , somewhere in Miami ! Well that’s another story .

I found working on the oysterdate simple enough , I bought a little tool kit , watched some tutorials on YouTube and everything was plain sailing . Until !!! The hands !!! Could someone please enlighten me ? There’s a big hole on the dial with the movement some way back . I just kept on trying to gently apply the delicate tittle buggers into this hole neatly . I could only manage to get the hour hand to hold . What sort of magic is used here ? On both watches I have had to get a watch smith to fit these , I was convinced I had the wrong parts but no , it’s just a skill I don’t have . I would like to get some tips as I’ve become a fan of this movement and plan to use it again .

The hand pinions should be slightly proud of the dial, not down in the hole.

Maybe ever so slightly proud but not enough to get a good view . I could find no information or videos with help anywhere . Seems stupid , doing all the fidly work and falling at the last hurdle .

Is the dial properly mounted and correct dial spacer used? The movement might require a taller pinion kit, or a hand set with long tubes.

These hands were on my 2 Tudor Oysterdate’s , original watches . Maybe is a cleaner design by Rolex ? They hands were fitted by a watch smith quite easily , just above my pay grade I’m afraid . Maybe if I build a Datejust rep they will be a little easier .

The hour and minute hands are supposed to be like rings that go over the spoke that pokes through the dial centre hole and actually clear the dial by a mm or two. Do you have a picture of the dial + movement? It sounds like you either have too thick of a dial spacer, or you forgot to put back the cannon pinion and/or hour wheel when reassembling.

It’s all together now . By the sound of it when I do a datejust it should be easy enough
