Seeing as the new Land-Dweller dropped March 31st, how long do you think it will be before some good reps of those drop? I would love to see photos.
Also what are your thoguhts on the Land-Dweller in general?

Being that it's a 5hz movement, I'm thinking it won't be easily replicated.

This is getting into Grand Seiko territory where the aesthetics can be copied, but the actual movement becomes the roadblock.

Can you explain in a bit more detail?

I'll keep it high level and let the pros explain more if they jump in. The new Rolex movement runs at 5hz (36,000 vph). This hasn't been something that's been replicated yet, reduces reliability (esp. in a rep movement) and very difficult to keep higher power reserves.

36,000 vph is a smooth sweep. It still "ticks", but hard to see. Similar to Hi-beat Grand Seiko or Spring Drive (perfectly smooth), it's just something that probably won't be released by any of the factories.

Kind of like the new 1908, might not be repped for some time I figure.

I'm struggling to identify other than it's an ETA or clone of one. Not being versed on the 2892 (I'm assuming from the plate), is there something special about this movement?

Even if it does, chances are it will use a movement operating at 28,800 vph. Not for all, but some, it would be a dead giveaway. It wouldn't be a rep with such a paramount piece of the build missing.
I get what you mean, so nothing in the rep world that you know runs at 36,000 vph?

It's just a thinner movement. But I guess the point I was making is that, somehow we lived for a decade+ with noobs containing 28xx movements, I still have noob models and are fond of very them.

They can make a very nice rep of the land dweller using such a movement and as a bonus, the movement is cheap and easily replaced.

I of course understand wanting a clone of the movement to funtion like gen, I just also really enjoy the simplicity of the reps of yesteryear.

Take all my opinions with a grain of salt, after all, I personally despise the land dweller 🤣

I've only heard stories of Noob and how amazing they are. I'd love to see one some day. I've probably seen a few floating around, but nothing ever in person.

I think I said something like, "The new Land Dweller is like a PRX80, a DateJust and a random color Tele-Tubbie had a baby"

I'm probably way off, but it's hideous. I couldn't afford one and if I could, I'd buy an OP if I wanted simplicity and class (my opinion)

This was my initial post when this was posted weeks ago...

My initial reaction to this was it looked good. But they mashed up a Datejust with a fluted bezel with an Explorer dial, the honeycomb datejust dial and threw in an AP bracelet/AP or Oysterquartz case. It seems like they lost the plot with this one. They tried to make a "greatest hits" watch and came up with this one. The more I think about it, I'm not a fan. Although that new bracelet clasp looks promising. I wish they'd just come up with a unique design with that integrated bracelet and maybe they'd have something.
See you in 2028 when they might come up with something unique to use that bracelet with.

The movement is impressive as hell. But also, for the cheapest version of the Land Cruiser (or whatever Morgan Freeman and a random guy in Japan said), it's like $15k. Pass

THIS. I feel they had to come up with something to eliminate stagnancy. People were demanding a new model essentially.

Also not name their watches after a Sesame Street character or soft drink. It was partial Land Rover and the other part they had already. So there's that.

If they ever release the basement-dweller, I'm gonna be all over that like flies on poo-poo.

Or something called, "Parents Basement". The dial would have a game controller, weed and empty pop cans on it. Also the movement would be made of melted down nickels and Funyun crumbs.

This - I'd be all over like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm.

Case back just says "Parents Basement Dweller, Stainless Steel, MOM THE MEATLOAF!"

Have a $5k option to laser engrave a meatloaf on the caseback. Another $2k to have it cut and see the hard boiled egg mom put in there. Some ketchup too.
