I know I'm a real noob round here, but I've been doing a lot of buying since I recently got into this rep hobby in a big way, and have used several of the TDs across RWI/RWG/RG, and thought I'd add my endorsement for JTime and salesperson Li.

Li first helped me out when I was looking for a small part for my PloProf project (a missing Omega dial logo) and was the only TD I approached who was actively interested in doing so. So that got us off to a really positive start!

On Sunday I contacted Li, having seen that JTime had the latest Noob Daytona's available. He suggested we move the discussion to WhatsApp, and then spent the next few hours working with me to come to a great deal on one, sending me photos of the watches in stock and generally being extremely friendly and helpful again. Having agreed the deal, I was then able to use TransferWise to pay - which resulted in the lowest cost transfer of funds that I've had from any deal with a TD to date. And with the option for lower shipping cost too, I've found my go-to TD from now on.

Yesterday I received and approved the QC pics, and the watch will ship today. I'll update with pics when I get it!

I'd not considered Transferwise until seeing this post but it does appear to be cheaper than WU. What's the lower shipping costs you refer to?

Li offered me the option for express delivery or standard shipping - the latter takes weeks rather than days, but if you're not in a hurry it knocks some more off the cost. If I were buying several watches at once I'd go for express, but standard knocks another $10 off the cost of a single watch that I don't need super quick.

I have no idea whether these costs/options are the same world-wide, BTW - I'm in the UK. Edit: And so are you! :)

I am trying to use Transferwise right now and they are asking what the funds are going to be used for and also what my relationship to the seller is???
Have you guys had that experience at all? Should I switch to WU even though they're more expensive?

It's a Noob Daytona V2.2. It hasn't arrived yet, as I opted for the less expensive (slower) shipping option, because a) I'm not in a hurry and b) I'm a cheapskate. I'll post pics as soon as I have it.

Don't worry - there's nothing sinister about the questions, just use any of the options for the answers to their questions (apart from stating the truth lol!). Obviously the choice is yours though. It's up to you to decide what you're comfortable with.

OK, thanks. I thought it was a little strange but maybe that's standard.

By way of follow-up, I responded to the TransferWise questions that the money was a gift for a friend. They responded with the following:

"Thank for the reply but can you please elaborate more on the reason for the payment:

How long have you known the recipient? Have you met in person?
What is the reason for a gift to them?

Account deactivation can occur for a number of reasons, including but not limited to security concerns, detection or possibility of duplicate accounts, or transactions not being within our risk appetite as a strictly regulated financial institution. We want to be confident that your account is completely secure before you continue using it.

In the meantime, please accept our apologies for the ongoing inconvenience that this may cause you.

Thanks,

I was quite surprised but politely told them that I won't need their services. (they must be getting heat from somewhere) I ended up going into a Western Union location and the cost was only about $14.

Wow, how extraordinary! I really can't remember which option I selected, but I think it was for "goods and services" or something similar. It doesn't record that info in the details of the transaction so I can't be sure. But I didn't get any follow-up comms from TW - the payment went straight through in seconds (it seemed to be faster because I used a debit card).

Thing is, TW cost around £8 IIRC, whereas WU charges me closer to £30. So the difference really is significant.

I know, strange right? Oh well, I think I'll just stick with WU from now on.
