Hello RWI peeps,

I've recently started my mission to build a 1984 5513 Sub. I've spent considerable time scouring the forum and noting specs of other outstanding builds but I'm now drowning in information and would greatly appreciate any opinions other, more experienced, members may have.
I'm also trying to do this on somewhat of a budget. (Read: no gen parts)

Starting point is a Ruby's 5513 case set. (Already purchased)
Here's my thoughts on next moves...
- Movement: Swiss ETA 2842-2 standard
- Hands: Clarks Mercedes
- Dial: ? (Cannot pinpoint supplier but want feet first variety with glossy white gold surrounds and pref pre-aged)
- Crown: Athaya 703 (or keep 7103 style that is currently on Ruby's case set)
- Bezel assembly/insert: Ruby's (existing on case set)
- Bracelet: ??? (Bit lost on this one if not going gen)
- Crystal: Sapphire (feel this would be correct for later white gold surrounds dial)

Appreciate any opinions, guidance or constructive criticism. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Phong, last time I scoured his website I believe he sold 5513 glossy dials, which you are referring too.

Hope this helps.

I too am assembling parts to build a mid 80's 5513. The only dial I could find was a genuine 5513 dial. I couldn't find any reps of this dial. For the bracelet, you are going to want a 93150 bracelet with 580 end links. The best one you can get besides a genuine one is the 93150 that markiemark is selling:

These type of 5513 dials do not exist as rep, as far as I know. The good kind of 5513 rep dials only exist as matte dials usually.

As for hands, I recommend rafflestime eta hands. They are a million miles better than Clark hands (http://rafflestime.com/white-merc-submariner-watch-hands-for-eta-2824-2836-metallic/).

Also, Athaya does not make 703 crown (http://parts.athayavintage.com/product-category/crowns/). If budget is a constraint, stick with the stock Ruby crown.

All 5513 did not use sapphire crystals in any year. You can consider sticking with the stock ruby crystal.

You are also missing a movement ring, in order to mount the 2824-2 inside the case. I recommend the helenarou movement ring (https://helenarou.com/eta-adapter-for-genuine-or-clone-rolex-5512-5515512551355141680.html).

Either wait for something to popup in the sales section / start a WTB thread.

Or you can buy an A2836-2 JKF (cartel) 5513 / 1680 / 1665 watch, use its bracelet, and sell the watch head. But if you do this, I recommend buying better hollow end links for the 93150 bracelet. The stock 580 end links that I have experienced from JKF are absolutely trash and nowhere looking/ fitting like gen. Rafflesdial sells 580 end links (https://rafflesdials.com/one-pair-o...watch-band-bracelet-and-spring-bars-in-2-0mm/).

Or you can just buy this and call it a day, although it isn't the most accurate, it is passable (https://rafflesdials.com/20mm-solid...ogo-for-rolex-5512-5513-1680-16750-1655-1665/).

When I had a 5513 built for me a few years back I was going for a meters first 1967 spec. We ended up buying the dial from MQ (vintagewatchesmq.com). It was the closest one I could find with the proper fonts and spacing especially noting the t Swiss - at the bottom of the dial having a unique layout on meters first early 5513s. The dial wasnt perfect though... The lame aging and plots leave something to be desired and they are too close to the minute markers but ive never seen anything better apart from the real thing.

My understanding is that all of these Vietnam high end rep dials are made using old tooling from brands like signer that truly did make dials for Rolex and the like in the mid-century. In terms of the dial stamp, I think they are not original but they have developed extremely close models
