177h/111h dial font placement?

I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed thoroughly in the past. I just got back into the rep game (had to see off my gens to keep the cash flow running ;)) and wanted to pick up an old piece that I had before.

I have been looking at the DSN 177h's as I used to have one and have noticed the dial font, mainly the L SWISS MADE L placement, has gotten worse! What gives? Below is a photo of the DSN I had back in March 2007 and if you look at his recent ones, they are closer and larger than they used to be. When compared directly to a gen, is pretty noticable

Also, is the new 111e more accurate (to those who own it because the shots on his dealer section don't show bottom font).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

My oppinion...

Don't sweat things. I used to freak out if there was a speck of dust on the dial, now who cares. I find that most people have no bloody idea what a Panerai is. Where I live maybe half dozen people know in a city of 100K. Enjoy what you have and forget about dial font placement.

Pete,

500% agree.

saturday i put 4 Panerais together, all 111, fully modded, 1 gen. i can tell you.....very very close looking.

hey....you spend $ 450 instead of $ 5500

and if you wear your rep watch.... people yell at you from the other side of the street :

HEY..... your SWISS L SWISS spacing is not correct ! you wear a fake !

the biggest call .....if a rep Panerai. with CLOSED EYES.....

open the CG lever......can you move it up and down ? REP !

is it tight, not being able to move up and down....GEN !

Yes,

It has gotten worse..

Why make a perfect one... ???? Fix one thing, screw up another.. keeps people buying them.
Also.. it is only a big deal to those on the forums,, other people dont notice or could care less,, so they weigh the value of redoing it.. is it worth the effort for such a small issue? They would rather focus their efforts on new models than remake old ones. I think changes come from different dial makers and other supplier issues.. plus probably a lot of other things we will never know.

Just received a DSN sandwich dial this week.

The font is a tiny bit bigger than the photo you show but the placement is good. DSN sent me a photo before shipping and the dial I received has spacing that is at least as good as your old DSN 177. Some of the pics in his section look worse than what's actually being shipped, just ask for a confirmation photo before shipment.

My suggestion, and I say this because I did one last night, is vintage it.

I picked up a 036 from someone from the other board. now it has a ss case not titanium. again no biggie because the avg. person has know clue.

Solution to fix the problem? Scotch bright, brush the case, make it look like titanium, then beat up the glass a bit, dull the dial here and there, maybe even a couple of scratches, old worn out strap and buckle, and voila, vintage panerai...who now cares about the issues...

I worried SO much about accuracy with my Rolex reps that it basically ruined my wearing experience.
The sub, LV, and GMT II Pepsi flaws drive me a little batty.

Now that I got my first PAM...a 177H in fact...I know the flaws but am totally indifferent since NOBODY knows what a PAM is to begin with.
After only 3 weeks this thing gets about 3 comments for every 10 hard head twisting looks it gets from people.
I like when it keeps peaking out from under my shirt cuff.......you can see people waiting for the next peak...."what was that, will I see it again?"

No matter how $hitty the 2008 is compared to your former 2007, you can bet one thing is for sure....2009 may be even worse but I'm sure it will also be more expensive and more popular 8)
