Fiddy rep Sapphire crystals definitely explode, and no, the one on the picture below is not a 'mineral glass' but real sapphire.
After it exploded I decided to do a little bit of Sherlock Holmes myself, got the fragments inspected by both the watchmaker of mine and the person that makes prescription glass lenses. They both concluded - A/R coated sapphire, but were both perplexed as to why would it explode in such a violent way.
My watchmaker asked me if I had hit it or scratched with a sharp object...however the watch was only 5 days old when the crystal popped, never left home with it.
Once I received a replacement A/R sapphire from David (DSN), I compared it quickly with the broken one, David's is 2.5mm thick, "original" only 2mm. I believe the genuine 127 is also 2.5mm. The curvature and slope of the crystal closer to bezel side is also slightly different, at least that's what I could "measure" with a naked eye from broken remnants still standing inside bezel.

So, to cut the long story short, DSN A/R Sapphire is definitely the way to go, at least IMO, for all those 127, 217, 203s out there
So far I haven't heard of any "exploding crystal" experience with DSN sapphire crystals...have you ?
cheers,
