said it well, ragerover!
couldn't agree more. it's all about your taste. these are reps, anyway, so they are never going to be perfect images of gen.
people ask me why, when i have gen panerais, i collect reps? in fact, the main reason i do is the fun of doing some mods and making it NOT look so much like the gen, but your very own. i would never do more than a PVD job to my gen.
but with a $200 rep, you can go crazy. in fact, personally, i am more and more into non-branded "panerai style" watches (read: reps) that are customized by me. mini fiddy with marina militare dial and gold hands. a pvd marina militare with gold hands like the one peepshow picked up from davidsen (what a beauty!). this way, you can feel even better about wearing it. it's truly yours, not trying to be something it will never really be: a panerai. and when people ask, "is that a...." you say, "no, it's a custom watch i made--i don't really like the dial/hand/case combinations panerai offers, so i designed my own." and i bet the reply will be, "that's really cool! can you make me one?"
personally, gold hands grew on me probably because of the vintage watches/history. originally, i hated them and loved the chrome hands on my rxw mm20, but now i love the gold. they really "pop" out, and give the watch an older look. but that's just me.
back to your specific question, i think with a thick black greg stevens strap, black stitching of course, this combination of black hands on black dial would look wicked! really cool and modern, with a historical twist because of the dial and case.
if you like this combo, you should definitely go for it, mate. and if someone says, "is that real...it doesn't have gold hands..." you can reply, "no, this is my own project watch b/c i if you have to know, i didn't like the gen configuration and wasn't going to pay for a 10k watch when i don't like everything about it!" that should shut them up. unless it's a cult-head paneristi who begins lecturing you on how your money for rep watches somehow funds evil mafia activities
can't wait to see shots of your watch when you've had it made.
