$100 gen better than $100 rep?

We fuss and fuss over minute details of reps and spend over $700 for the best of them.

But all the parts put into reps could easily be used to construct gens for a low price.

Maybe a $100 gen is a better alternative than a $100 rep?

It has a guarantee so you can return it if there are quality control issues.

There is no "customs risk."

No one will "call you out."

Sure, you don't "impress" people with your "Rolex" but how many people have you really impressed with your reps anyway?

A good looking gen (assembled from rep parts) may "impress" just as many people.

A "cool" watch is a "cool" watch no matter what name appears on it.

This is a $100 gen constructed, I am sure, in China from rep parts or parts equal to those put into our reps.

I think it is interesting to see the inner workings work and well worth the price.

Do you think this $100 gen is a better value than a $100 submariner?

Anyone notice the hair I missed removing in two of the above photos before reading this note? If you didn't see it go back and look for it.

I have no problem with $100 gens that are neat looking, as long as the person knows what they are getting.

Intially, I think most of the warranties are difficult to actually get service on. Of the similar type of watches that I have had, they kept horrible time.

The problem I have with them is that a lot of these "watch companies" have made BS websites, with some bs background story, and a bs grossly over-inflated "retail" value. This all looks to be an attempt to trick consumers.

That being said. A good looking watch is a good looking watch.

Hi,
well these gens are kind of reps with a fantasy brand... They're chinese for sure, and I would not be surprised that they are manufactured in the same factories.

This movement is frequently met in our reps (100 dollars Patek or VC)

Your gen inludes the dealer's margin and VAT probably, so this makes sense : a watch which is sold 30-40 USD by a factory (and maybe less) will land in your AD (usually rather on ebay) for around 100 USD.

As mentionned before, a good looking watch is a good looking watch, and this movement always make a good impression (I had one in a Trias watch, supposed to be from Germany...)

Your question is valid. I am sure that if you know your way around the low end of the watch market, you can get really great watches for a very attractive price. Swatch, being an obvoius example.

But to be honest, I don't find the one you show here is a very good example. To me it does not look very exclusive, but then again it was never pretending to do so.

So in this case I would prefer the $100 Sub. That is much more to my taste.

I think a lot of skeleton watches use that skeletonized movement.

I think it is this one on Ofrei for $33.30

Look at the shape of the rotor and engravings

I haven't checked how well it keeps time.

I would prefer a noobfactory sub to this watch also but I already have lots and lots o subs so I enjoy being able to see inside the movement and watch it work.

Egad, Don! Your artistry with the camera is just phenomenal! I clearly see the details of both the front and back of the watch. Impressive! AND, I agree: there's nothing wrong with a $100 gen (or less). I've found a brand on the 'Bay (AK Promme, I believe -- can't remember right now), that produces nice-looking watches for under $40. I have two, and they work well, have nice weight, and really look "pretty."
