Guys,

I just got a PAM005 from Ruby. I really like the watch for the money. This is my first PAM and I am really impressed. Her service was great and very fast. I do have a problem though that isn't her fault. The watch is running 5 seconds fast/minute. Obviously, this isn't going to work. I do have the clear back and can see the +/- indicated and it is all the way at the end of the +. Would it help if I took it to a jeweler to move that down a few notches? I don't have a caseback opener to do it myself.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sure it would help, yes. However, give the watch a couple of weeks to "break in". Regulating a watch that is brand new is not advised as it usually takes a little while for the movement to settle in.

So, keep it wound and let it run for a couple of weeks straight, then take it and have it regulated. Try finding a watch repairer that is local to you, he/she should have a movement timer.

Good luck, let us know how it works out...

You might have a defective movement. First, Break it in for a week. Slap the watch on your palm to loosen the tangled hairspring. If all fails after the break in period, get the watch replaced or fixed.

as weird as slapping the watch sounds, it worked out for me :)

I would say don't do it too hard

Slap

Thanks for the help guys, the slap did the trick. My watch is running perfect now. This is truley a great value for Under $100. Add a couple of TC Straps and this is one nice watch. I think I am getting PAM fever already.

It's amazing how widespread the "palm slapping" technique is amongst us...

My only Asian 6497 powered PAM came DOA..."slapped" it a couple of times against my palm and voila ...has been running ever since

The mainspring originally came quite mangled and to me it looked like it was damaged beyond repair...I wonder if anyone had the same issue with Swiss mov't as well ?

cheers,
babola

G'day mate!

Yep, had a twisted mainspring and watch came to a halt, on a Swissie 6497.

FIRST: let the watch run down as much as possible.

Second: then bang it against your palm.,,, er, vice versa (likley no diff, just have more finesse on degree of force - not too much!)

Wait, wind it a bit. Does it start?

Repeat (2). If this is not efficacious, then the issue requires opening of the case.

Terrific! I'm glad it worked out for ya.

All this slapping reminds me of that song by Akon - Smack that. LOL!

Smack that all on the floor
Smack that give me some more
Smack that 'till you get sore
Smack that oh-oooh!

With the cannon pin low in his picture is that what it means to have a recesed pin, and people bring it up flush.

Yup, that pic is a great illustration of the notorious cannon pinion problem. Installing the longer cannon pin (and hour wheel?) will bring the top of the pin up flush with the opening in the minutes hand.
