sup all,

I've been eyeing 005 for awhile now as I really want a nice closeback. On the gen, do you know if the hand lume color and the dial stick lume color are exactly the same, or does the gen have different color? The new DSN c1 looks awesome and the F series 005 from what I understand does have thinner sausages on the dial than the G series (DSN caseback is F) so I think I'm gonna go for it. However, one of the probs with sausage dials is that the hands have such a different lume color and it pops out! Anyone know if this is the case for gen too? Or, probably not?

P.S. If not, I guess an option is to send it to the modders to C1 the hands?

Sorry, no such thing as F-series PAM005 :).
The Marina Logo model was first released in 2004, and some (reportedly) 80 of the first ones churned out from the Panerai factory, came with 'long arrow' logo dial which were leftovers from PAM195 model which ceased production in late 2003.

The standard PAM005 rep dial as offered currently, is the closest 'long arrow' logo dial you'll get these days, but it's SO diferent from the gen G, H and I-series, and as you hinted above - the gen 005 comes with thicker luminous dial numerals and markers.

As far as the color of the lume is concerned...according to a few gen 000 & 005 I personaly examined @my AD, the daylight non-charged dial and hands lume color is very close to crisp white, almost indistinguishable from the dial txt color. When charged, it emits a nice blueish color.

Pure C1 isn't the way to go with any PAM models IMO, the resulting color is just too white for Panerai dial, and the lume intensity is greatly diminished since C1 will not glow as bright as C3, for example.

Most likely the closest lume mix to get would be something like 2/3 C1 & 1/3 C3...or adding some 'Noctilume' lume to the mix for the blueish lume, as the standard Superluminova C1/C3 mix will still produce greenish lume color when charged.

hope this helps,
babola

so that's a "no."

what about the colors on sammy dials like 111 or 177, are the rep standard C3 lumes pretty accurate, or do they also need the C1/C3 mix? If so, is this mix what everyone is talking about in terms of relume by the modders?

I confirm this. The markers when not lumed should be VERY VERY white. I saw a 000 and 005 about 2 months ago at an AD and they were as white as 113 markers and hands.

Pretty much so, they're also refered to as "C2 Mix" by FFlav, or "Vaclume" by Vacuum...or simply C1/C3 mix of your choice when dealing with Ziggy :)
