I've noticed in purchasing Rolex reps personally and also seeing pics of them on the forum that when they have the serial number engraved on the inner rheault it always starts with the letter F. Has any one else noticed it? Anyone received one with a different serial number than F?

That's because they only started putting serials there with the F series Rolexs. Before that they were between the lugs (and still are?).

My (now broken - sob) Milgauss has an M serial on it, although it is a GV; an F serial would be just plain wrong.

Not that it's ever been a big deal to me; by the time anyone gets close enough to it to be able to read the serial, they should have noticed all the other tells first; rehaut engraving spacing, dial font, crown etc.

F serial number is from 2004 and ive heard some say rolex started engraving the inner rheault with the M series...others say that they started with F...real debate in the rolex forums..lol..even if they did start with F theres been a lot of serials since then...d,z,m,v yet all i ever see is F...

As far as I know (one of the experts can correct me if I'm wrong) the rehaut engraving started in 2005, which would put the engraving around the crossover from F to D serial numbers; M numbers correspond to watches made in 2007.

Perhaps you have just been the subject of freakishly coincidental F-series purchases?

haha maybe...most seem to agree with you TLOB..but ive heard a few argue the M which seems too recent to me...
perhaps the F serial #s are because i always deal with the same dealer (timeshops) and thats all they have...

Engravings are a new thing. Really didn't get cranking until the end of 2008. In fact people hated it so much that for the first year both versions were popping up in stores. Another little factoid to note. The square cases were so poorly received that they are still producing the old cases. You'd think with the declining sales Rolex would take a hint.
