I thought you lot my like to see my new pride and joy.

It's my Rep repair/modding/servicing area. I acquired some tools from my parents for christmas as requested then added to them myself.

I have already enjoyed some success in the shop. I had a problem with the hack mechanism on my Tag Heuer carrera so using the online ETA guide I fully dismantled the movement, cleaned it up, replaced the part causing the problem with a gen ETA part ordered from cousinsUK and now the thing works perfectly. Very pleased with myself. O, I also changed the date wheel for a gen ETA wheel.

Anyone who does work on movements will know about the incredible anger experienced when a tiny screw goes flying out the tweezers never to be seen again but its worth it.

I have now basically fully serviced every A7750 watch I own using the ETA guides for proper oiling points etc.

The one thing I have learned which did surprise me is that the Asian 7750 movement high beat is 99.9% the same as the Gen ETA version. I was originally under the impression that although based on the swiss one, it would be different and hence, cause its inferior performance.

Based on this, I see absolutely no reason why an Asian 7750, serviced and oiled properly will not last as long as the swiss one. All the parts seem to be crafted to a high standard.

Another success I've had is a full movement swap for the Gf's J12. I actually broke the movement myself while trying to remove the winding stem, there wasn't a nice easy push button to get it out (its a quartz). Anyway, ordered a new movement from cousinsUk which arrived the next day and its now happily ticking away inside the watch.

Anyway, I hope that in the near future some truly awesome modded reps will be coming out of my workshop and when they do, I'll be sure to post pictures. Hope I didn't bore you too much, here's some pictures:-

Thanks chaps. Actually, I forget to say one thing!

I want to appeal to all UK members to donate any really crappy reps that they may have floating around, I will gladly pay postage and perhaps a little but generally I just want really cheap ass $5 reps like one pics up from a turkish market before they knew about good reps.

Then I can practice my skills without causing harm to any nice watches.

Anyone kind enough to donate to a worthy cause, pm me.

Thanks.

I truly wish I had the time and patience to do the same. I've done one dial swap and that was enough to convince me that I will never be a watch maker. I spent most of the time looking for chrono hands on the floor than I did working on the watch itself. These big hands weren't made to work on such small parts... Good luck and congratulations with taking your hobby to the next level.

Very nice setup, Reeder. I'd like to dabble in some modding and repair stuff myself one day. I'm eager to see some of your work soon.

I got that exact same tool kit from e-bay years ago. As it turns out there isn't much else to pick up to do basic repairs. I think I got it for like $20 too. Nice space, I'm lucky to get a corner of my kitchen table when the kid goes to bed. Wich sucks when you trying to re seat the cubic in your wifes new rolex dial after it fell out with no light and bits of food everywhere!

Yeah, I got that tool kit and all I had to buy extra is a full set of screwdrivers as the kit only came with 3, I quickly realised I needed more and also a movement holder.

The best thing is the magnifying lamp. It's really useful, I've got the loupe as well which has a higher magnification but the lamp is perfectly adequate for me to see everything I need to and way more convenient than using the loupe.

Thanks mate, I have my first project in the pipeline, Ive just ordered a Swiss ETA 2824 movement which will come to rest in my superocean which currently has the 21J movement. I would like to get a genuine superocean dial as well but they never come up on Ebay so I've got no idea how to get one?

I like the moveable magnifying lamp, BTW I went to dentist last week and saw her using the night vision type magnifying goggles. Wondering if that is something you should have when repairing micro stuff.

Some Action Shots:-

This movement has a problem in that it stops at equal regular intervals but could be restarted each time with a little tap on the escape wheel, which said to me, one of gears between the barrel and the balance wheel had a tooth issue!

Turns out I was right so this one should be good as new again V soon.

Thanks for the kind comments:-
