That is ... if you use photobucket.

Now.. I can't speak to imageshack and a few other hosts as I haven't spent any time on them..

but what I can say from my research today is that Photobucket is a veeery unsecured host.

Now.. I'm no computer genius .. far from it actually, so if I can learn to .. er.. tap into private accounts in about 3 hours (yes 3 hours of learning = access to everyone's private albums) .. imagine what someone w/ some actual computer skills could do.

Now I'm not going to go into the.. HOW I did it.. since well I love you guys, but I don't want you going into each others pics !

anyways - don't put anything er.. well.. private on photobucket, even if you have it set to private settings.


- ALSO

a few things to help make your pics more secure.

1) on a forum.. if you are going to keep using ur photobucket account.. and you do have pics you don't want everyone to see. BEFORE you post the pic on this or any other forum, put the link through a tinyurl generator.

ie.

instead of " http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l286/some name /some pic "
it would be
" tinyurl/something.jpg"

That way .. its very hard to trace back the pic to your photobucket account.

where as with the first link :
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l286/some name /some pic
gives away your account name and thus... all your pics are belong to us.

... now another thing you can do is - make your user name is something that is different / hard to guess..

ie.. I'm "seventhexile" .. hopefully my photobucket account name isn't also "seventhexile"

...

in photobucket , you can make "sub categories" for your pics.
I suggest naming your subcategories something random that way it will prevent those in the know - from getting to your pics w/ out a good amount of effort.. and hopefully they'll give up before getting to em.

I just always assumed that once a pic is posted in a thread then everyone had access to ones photobucket album. Guess I better remove those nude wristcheck shots.

I'm with you guys, I have no illusions about the web and things like "private" accounts.

always been under the impression, if you put it online.. then you better be ok with everyone seeing it.



I just didnt know.. how easy it was to break into photobuckets private accounts.

(facebook / myspace are actually much much harder.. then photobucket, which surprised me a bit)

Well ha again, I'm no computer wizard .. so my knowledge of what can be gained from all this is really really .. reeaalllyyy limited.

Right now I know I can see all your private pics, the camera you used to take em with, the date - perhaps the location, if your computer auto adds that to the photo details.

I'm sure there's a good deal of stuff that can be done, but honestly .. i'm far from understanding anything more then how to get into private accounts and seeing all the pics.

so no real worries if you don't have any personal pics on photobucket.

(I think at least..I cant think of any other type of personal stuff that could be extracted from photobucket other then images and some picture source data.)

yeah, i knew that about photobucket a long time ago. even Flickr is like that.

but I think if you mark them as private or lock them, then i think there is a bit of security. But if you can hack in in about 3 hours, then maybe not.
