Hi,

I bought a rolex ladies datejust. The watch looks great! However, the minute hand seems to have become loose. So when my wife moves her wrist it swings freely. the movment is Swiss ETA 2671-2

Is there any way i can fix this at home rather than sending it back to the dealer????

Any suggestions are welcome. Alternatively, i'm in New York. Are there any watch repairers that would be willing to repair a replica???

Thanks

i found this post

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...elp-44778?t=44778&highlight=loose+minute+hand

though no solution was found.

Yes there is but you will need to remove the case back, then remove the crown followed by the movement. This is not that difficult but does require some dexterity and a set of watchmakers screwdrivers etc.

If you are up to then we can help. Alternatively a local watchsmith should be able to do this.

Don't take the watch to Rolex dealer! I know this might sound obvious but you would be amazed!

Fixing the problem locally is preferable since sending watches back can be problematic and time consuming.

great - i havent decided whether to fix it locally or try myself first.

Can you give me some more details on how to fix it???

Really don't want to send it back due to customs stress etc...

Appreciated

1. Take the strap off or remove a screw so that you can access the case back.
2. Make a ball out of some duct tape so that the sticky side is on the outside.
3. Use the ball to grip the case back and unscrew it.
4. Loosen the screw adjacent to the crown stem (close to the outside diameter of the movement) but do not remove it.
5. Pull out the stem.
6. Remove the 3 screws holding the movement into the case. Note the orientation of the tabs under the screws; you need to put them back the same way.
7. Take out the movement.
8. The minute hand probably just needs to be pushed down a little. A Couple of toothpicks should do the job. Remember to make the minute/hour hand relationship right first.

Make sure you do this in a room with solid floors in case you drop something.
Avoid touching the escapement wheel, they are very fragile.

Other members please chime in if I missed something...

Good luck.

Thanks for the steps. I'll give it ago. not sure about taking it to a watch repair shop. People have mixed reactions regarding replicas.

Can you explain what you meant regarding minute/hand relationship? (sorry if that's a stupid question)

minute/ hour hand relationship- best way to do this is to set the time at 12 oclock and follow phick's instruction, push the seconds hand down..

So i've gotten the case back off and taken the crown out. Now i'm stuck. I can see two screws highlighted in the image below. I've tried to unscrew them, though i dont think they unscrew all the way.

There are only 2 screws. Also the stem comes out by pushing the small button in. Be sure to use a proper size screwdriver, a 1.2mm, cause if you push it in too far you're pretty well F****D and you'll have to repair the keyless works. Remove the stem from the winding position. After you unscrewed the crown pull it gently while pushing down on the release button until it slides out. To re insert it, gently push in and slowly turn the stem to line it up and it will normally slide back in and click into place. Some stubborn ones need to have the release button pushed in gently while you slide the stem back in.

It looks to me like you need to pull the stem out and move the movement around until the 2 screws reach the area without the lip. They appear to be under the lip and are holding the movement in place. Then you can remove it.

that's correct the screws are under the lip, hence preventing me from unscrewing fully.

What are you refering to when you state 'stem'? i have already removed the crown.

Thanks

The stem is the stick attached to the crown that goes into the movement. I assumed you removed that with the crown attached and didn't unscrew the crown off the stem.

I think you need to screw the screws in (down) to allow you to move the movement until you get the screw heads at the area that doesn't have a lip. Then it should just fall out.

Edit: just remembered I have one Eta movement like that and it's got flat sides on the heads of the two screws. You just turn the screws till the flat side is against the lip and it comes out. By now you've probably figured it out, though.

Ha, hadn't figured that out. I gave up a little while ago.

I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Though, i when i was working on it i did turn the screws till their heads were against the lip. the movement wouldnt budge :(

p.s. flat sides on the heads??? Sorry being thick, didnt quite understand what you meant

i had an issue with a milgauss with swiss eta movement before and it is more often that not cheaper to bring it in than to send it back to your dealer...presonally id just bring it in as opposed to messing with it...try to call around and explain to each watch shop whats happening and tell them the movement and everything so they know its not gen...they usually won't turn away business but if you call first you can get a vibe from the shop clerk before you actually go there...

I would love to send it to a local watchsmith for fixing and servicing.

I live in London and New York. So if anyone here knows of a watchsmith in either of those cities that will work with replicas PLEASE PM me their details!

Guys just wanted to say thanks for all your help!

i managed to remove the movement and with two toothpicks as suggested by Phicks, i pushed the minute hand back on. I've set the time and thus far everything looks good :) Moreover, when i put the movement back in and refastened the case back i shook the watch around. Everything felt and looked secured.

I'll continue to monitor it on the watch winder. Hopefully all will be good. Your help and instructions have saved me the cost and trouble of sending it back to the dealer. Furthermore, my wife is very happy!

Here are some pictures i took with my new Nikon DSLR

p.s. i oiled the braclet with olive oil. It feels silky and smooth. For those that haven't yet oiled their braclets DO SO. It's true when people say it makes a HUGE difference.

Not been on RWI in a few days but it looks like you managed to fix the problem with some help from some other members. Congrats to you for taking on a task outside of your experience. Thanks also to Alviando and KBH for taking the time to help out a fellow member; that's what this forum is all about.
