Nothing like waking up and finding a truck on top of your truck...

So I wake up to this this morning...

All of these pics were taken after the my truck was pulled out from under it. The Tahoe rested on its side up against my tailgate.

My truck was parked on the street. A woman doing an estimated 60mph in a 25 mph zone clips the front end of a car making a legal right turn, goes air born (an estimated 3-5 feet off the ground) and lands against the bed of my truck.

My truck was in gear with the e-brake on and still managed to move 10 feet.

The fire department had to cut the entire roof off of her Chevy Tahoe and it is suspected that she suffered a broken neck.

Looks like I wont need to worry about where my truck is sitting while I am gone. The frame is bent in at least two places and it would not roll more than 5 feet.

I hope she's insured!

On a more serious note, I'm glad that you weren't in the truck when it happened and that you're safe.

That is bad T. Hopefully the lady will live. I had an Escalade flip over in front of my house about a month ago. Our street is off the main road big time. She was texting, swiped a tree and flipped it. Apparently it was loud, I only woke up because I heard a reverse alarm of a truck. I thought, wth is a truck doing on our street at 2:50AM. :) There are too many texting while driving stories now days.

I hope you get a nice check for your truck out of this.

I really am not concerned with the truck, and I have to say that Nationwide Insurance is on the ball, this happened 3 hours ago and a claims adjuster will be here in 2 hours and the towing company and body shop have already called me.
The woman is in bad shape... Everyone at the scene (at least 20 fireman and 10 police officers) are saying that they think she has a broken neck and other serious internal injuries.

A couple interesting technical notes... Some of the pics show a bunch of cops with a laptop plugged in to her truck. They were able to download the last 60 seconds of time the truck was on/moving. It shows acceleration, braking, stopping, what seatbelts were on etc.

I was just told that in the last 450 feet she had accelerated from 42mph to 55mph and then came to a rather sudden stop when she hit my truck. All of this in a zone marked for 25mph speeds.

I do hope she is going to survive... She had just dropped off her three children at the school 6 blocks up the road.

Even if she doesn't live, her insurance has to pay for the damages to your truck, so you're OK.

Oh man, if she had done this BEFORE dropping the kids off ...

As a parent I get sick just thinking about the possibility of something like that. I'm glad there was only one injury, but if her neck is broken its going to be bad. My wife is an OT in long-term care (was at a rehab hosp. for 10 years) and I get horror stories all the time about the recovery process. Of course, they were mostly motorcycle accidents as she was trying to discourage me from riding. As a side note, she eventually succeeded and I sold my Ninja.

A moment of levity...

Crap man. Some people just have to learn the hard way. I'd probably fight the insurance company to replace the truck keeping in mind that it could be hard to sell in the future if someone does a Carfax on it and sees that the frame was bent... Sorry to hear about your truck, looks like it was a nice ride.

Guys, as I was chatting with LOS on Yahoo I had a knock at the door. The doctor who is seen in the pics (I thought he was a nurse or something) came by to say she has been in surgery all morning and is not expected to make it.
She has a broken neck, back internal bleeding and other severe injuries...
She has 3 small children that had JUST been dropped off at the school 6 blocks away. Please pray for her and her family... I know how lucky I am that my kids were not out there... But she may leave 3 kids without a mother.

PEOPLE SPEED KILLS.... I sit here looking at the graphic pics that I did not post and cant stop from crying. I hope she makes it, but even if she does she will never walk again................

T- the caliber of your personality comes through in this post. Here is a man tough enough to be deployed and do his "job", but an even bigger man enough to cry and feel compassion for a stranger and her family. Wow! That is something that impresses me greatly.
I'm glad you are ok T and where not involved in anyway and I hope this does not put to much of a dampner on the time you have left with family (particularly your kids) and family before you head off.
cheers
A
