Again... 176 vs 700 for genuine, I will still think it carefully and may as well go for the genuine watch.

Certainly can't argue with your logic on buying a clean used Omega right now - there are deals out there to be had.

Where? Someone please post a link to a good auto full-size SMP for sale at $700. The only ones I've seen for that price are either mid size or quartz... and even then you have to look hard. A link would be awesome.

By the way, I agree about the lume on these. The lume on the gen is just unparalleled. An immediate tell if you're familiar with the watch.

Not a very good example but the member that I am referring to bought it at 700 with bracelet. Priced at 900USd but he bargained to 700,.

Thanks for the link, Taka! Interesting... Yeah, it's not what I would call a good one, and I personally wouldn't touch it... but still...that's by far the lowest price I've ever seen for one of these... and if someone doesn't mind the condition, no box, etc., well, why not... It's not a bad buy.

I am the member in question who bought the watch and it is actually in pretty good shape. I don't mind my watches having some wear on them because I will put them through paces anyways. The seller was actually a very nice gentleman who I have been speaking to and making friends with. Never know when you'll meet a new friend eh? He is starting up his own watch business and is trying to raise some money by selling some of his personal collection. I have since taken it to the AD and had it sent to the service center for a couple touchups that they thought were too much work to do in house, but overall I am very satisfied. After wearing the piece around for a few days it is true that the entire feel is just different. Immediately when I had it unwrapped and in my hand I knew it was the real deal.

P.S. here is the link to the watch that I personally purchased http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=4803852&rid=0

What a deal! I'm saving up to buy a 2254.50... I have seen a few on ebay sell for under 1,000... that watch is definitely worth it.

Thanks... I know what you mean about making friends with people you buy watches from... It happened to me before too and it's great. What else is this guy selling? I'd love to see some of his other deals! By the way, have you noticed the lume on that watch? Isn't that amazing? Enojoy it, and wear it in good health. :)

If lume is very important then the newer version with broad sword hand will not disappoint either. It is the most legible Seamaster bar none.

Sorry I (the OP) have been AWOL for a bit but I'm really glad to see this thread has brought out some great detail which is exactly what I was looking for. Taka, you've convinced me to not buy rep smp for now - and to possibly start saving for the gen though with so many tempting reps out there, I think it will be hard to realistically save! :)
My question has been answered - but the quality of information on this post from all of you will be real valuable for anyone else considering the smp rep so no harm in keeping this going. Thanks again!

lol. No more debate and the OP agrees to get the genuine anyway.

Infact I believe I have convinced a few others to think it through carefully before buying a rep Omega SMP.

Saving for a gen is harder only in the fact that it provides gratification much less quickly. If I take that $300-400 dollars that I was going to spend on a rep and just put it aside it is significantly less fun than getting the rep but if I do it 5-10 times I can get myself a really nice gen. With the amount of money I've someone come up with to put into reps in just a few short months I could have bought myself a few gens. It is actually surprisingly easy to scrape together a couple hundred dollars when you really want something.

Considering the price the gen is the right choice for sure. But you wouldn't get called out on the rep either.

Well that depends entirely on who will bother to call you out in the first place.

Even if I know that the watch is a fake, I won't go and tell a stranger about it.

I still wonder how someone can be so rude and call someone out. I just see that as very very rude!

as a rep guy, i personally wouldn't call someone out for wearing a replica. what other people wear is their business anyway.

(plus i'm scared he'd call me out back!)
