I had a problem with my GMT II C that the crystall was not perfectly sitting on the case and I decided to have it replaced and use an AR coated crystall from Uwe (fine dd). I sent the watch to Uwe last Thursday and got the watch back yesterday. Uwe worked on it over the complete weekend and found out what was causing the problem. First of all there was a dent in the case and the containerring was broken by this dent.

Here is a picture with the old and new container ring
containerring.jpg

Uwe had to grind down the new container ring so that it would fit the crystall. He also took the inlay of the bezel out and cleand it so that it would perfectly fit. I guess he also did some other work on it to make it a very nice and fine watch. He used an AR crystal and the outcome of his work is just beautiful.

Enjoy the pics and if you need AR in EU, send a PM to fine dd

The crystall is just perfect, no blue or any other colour visible. Why can't Rolex do it this way?

This is a very fine watch. Normally we correct minor flaws towards perfection and yet the general feeling is still somewhat weird, fake. This is one of the few reps I have seen around having an overall gen feeling. Gratz for a top notch rep.

i'll give you one even better than that. rolex doesn't ar the cyclops, they ar the spot where the cyclops sits on the crystal. it's the damnedest thing i have ever seen.

I am open to new experiences HK, have ya got links or pics of that detail? Honestly I never put notice to that. I only see that normally on Rol reps the cyclops is 1.5x instead of 2.5x as in gen Rols (being that one a remarkable give away imho), but being a vintage Rollie lover I might miss details of the latest models out there.

i have the pictures of a gmt2c with the cyclops removed on my computer at home. i will post them up tonight after i get home from work. it is very strange they would have done it that way. you can plainly see the ar where the cyclops was.

edit to add pic,

Nice mate, are you going to replace the crystal or simply add the cyclops? pls post some pics when you are done with the mod, your watch looks bloody nice. What kind of glue are you going to use if you attach the cyclops?

That one is a GEN, and I guess it´s not his, Jelly =)
...although HK has a GEN one, I think he wouldn´t do that to his one.

:)

Cheers,
Spirit.

yes, it is a gen but it is not mine. i would never remove the cyclops from a rolex. i like the way they look and function, i just wanted to share the ar oddity. i have no idea why rolex would choose to just ar that one spot. i understand why they wouldn't ar the cyclops or top side of the crystal on a tool watch, it is too easy to damage. i can't understand why they didn't ar the underside of the crystal. it would achieve the same results and would be protected from damage.

who can say why rolex does the things they do.
