I am numb. This is the first place I am telling this. The fire started, according to the inspector outside the house by a tossed cigarette butt, which landed on a tarp and blankets by the dog house. It then spread through the vent to the gargage, which was ebgulfed in flames anddestroyed my car. The smoke alarm went off at 4AM and the house itself suffered major smoke damage, but is intact. The fire inspector showed me hundreds of butts, my 19 and 23 years old kids tossed out the window, and this caused it. I am so bummed.

Hambone, Im very sorry for your loss... But I am very happy to see that you are here to post this. There are very few things in life that scare me nearly as much as FIRE. And when talking about fire, fire AT NIGHT is just unbelievable.
Thank GOD you had a working fire alarm... So many people do not.

I'm gutted for you Hambone, and I hope the insurance guys don't mess you about too much; they always have a knack of making a bad situation seem much worse!
In the meantime, console yourself with dreaming up elaborate punishments for the kids. I'm sure right now they're clenching their ass cheeks in anticipation of the whooping they're gonna get!

Wow. So sorry to hear that... Thank god the alarm woke you up. I wouldn't want to be your kids right now. Hope the dog is ok too.

Lesson folks, fit smoke alarms! I gather they are not mandetory over there as they are here in OZ? They should be! They will save your life.

Thank you for the kind words. This is such a sad thing, but it will be ok. Oh, and TrailBoss, you are right about the smoke detector. It saved our lives.
Hadn't thought of adding a smoke alarm for a garage but that might make sense. Then again, I don't have kids (are they in for a whuppin'?) Glad to hear you are OK Hambone.
My kids are in denial. The evidence is compelling. My daughter said they dont throw butts out the window, yet there they are. Dropped from a flying smoke fiend who smokes camels? Their brand? She had been drinking and was nearly out of control as I dragged her and the dogs from a burning house. I swear I did my best to raise them.

Sry to hear that Ham. But glad nobody was hurt. You might have lost a few nice things and for that you have all the right to chew your kids asses. But at the end of the day what really counts is still there, thank God.

Thanks Joe, my Mom is here and we both had a great laugh. Never underestimate the power of a whip. I am also glad my Mom lives in a condo a mere block away from my house, and so I am staying here until, my home is repaired.
