Didn't want to go off topic in another thread, so here go's...

I would enjoy seeing some rep raffles being started, too. I love the idea of the gens, don't get me wrong, but they are too rich a gamble for my blood.

Reps should be very easy to obtain, as would participation with a comparitively low buy in. LoS had mentioned these are run by dealers, but something more frequent, without having to rely on dealer whims would be welcome by me!

Anyone else? Discuss..

The only ones I've seen are usually promo raffles RWI holds on the vendor's behalf (i.e. Ruby's give away last month). I'm sure there would be an interest in it for some of the high end reps, but I don't think there would be much success for mid range or low end reps. Still it's a good question.

Maybe LOS might have some insight on this.

well, the idea of raffling off gens on a rep forum is something unheard of until some months ago. I believe RWI were the originators to the idea. Gen forums dont even have this option!!

but i do agree, throwing in a high end rep raffle every now and then would be nice considering i cant be in EVERY gen raffle. i just cant afford it.

There was this franken yachtmaster last month where you could buy yourself in with any amount. That was fun (I didn't win, though, that sucked).

When we do rep raffles, they will be sponsored by a dealer and they will be free....

Or even a 40 person raffle at $5.00 a pop is not bad. Even if the watch is not donated we can pay half the cost to a dealer so they are not out and soneone gets a nice watch.

Thing is, whats a nice watch these days thats worth anything? Seems Swiss has gone the way of the Edsal and there is nothing out there IMO is worth over $200.00

D4M, id totally be down with a DSSD. id never buy a dssd but i would sure be in a raffle for one!

Pedecter i was also thinkin of a PAM... a DSN PAM! granted my wrists can only handle 40mm max but id still enter in any PAM raffle.

Watchbuff i see where your comin from about the $200 mark, but i can think of a few high end reps that are over that with no a21j option. and since its a raffle it makes it even better considering the price paid.

$5-10 a pop i'm sure plenty of people would bite. i know i would!

its a lot easier to part with $10 (a meal) than to part with $60-80 :)

DSSD would be good or a GMTII

i wouldn't mind seeing a Tag or an Omega up for raffle too

Remember to that part of the proceeds from a gen raffle go towards maintaining this very forum and providing the services you enjoy here. For some the latest raffle buy in may be steep for others not so. The average price of the buy in latley has been around the $50 mark. If you buy into one raffle and don't win well you've at least made a contribution to the site. And there are still a lot of free loaders here. So its better than being charged an annual fee.

The benefit is that if you do win you get a gen that you may never be able to purchase, IE I could never afford a gen Omega, Breitling etc.... Its a splurge sure but in the end everyone is the winner.
1) The person who wins the watch gets it well below what he could ever buy it for.
2) The forum is a winner because it gets to be maintained
3) Most importantly YOU who are using this site is the winner. Think of all the advice, info, assistance, support, guidance you have received. What would you pay for that kind of knowledge.
cheers 747

ps- the risk of selling a rep is also something to be considered. How much of a pain in the arse would it be if after 6 months the winner of the rep started complaining about "the watch doesn't keep accurate time" or "the watch has stopped working" etc etc etc etc..... I can imagine what T4D would say and I'm sure you can too.

If you win something and you are not satisfied its that you are a moron and nobody will be on your side :)

And the rep raffle is a good idea, even with low budget tickets it can help the forum and promote dealers new/unknown products for example so its not a totally silly idea.

I've been thinking about this most of the day, and while it still warrants a lot of thought before a decision is made I think I would be in the "do it" camp.

For many of us here reps in the $200-$400 range are almost as unreachable as gens are! That is, unless we want to just have ONE nice rep vs. several less expensive ones. ;)

My $.02 is continue the discussion, bandy about some ideas, then make a logical decision that is in the best interest of the forum and its members - whatever that may be.

747 i get where you're coming from and i'm sure we'll all agree that even tho we didn't win the raffle, the site won and thats important too.

and thats why nobody questions the asking price of a ticket even tho we know that if we did the math, the total includes proceeds to RWI and we wouldn't have it any other way. in fact, i would expect any rep raffles to also include a 'margin' for donations to RWI.

I also 2nd the DSSDV5, GMT IIc. There's a ton of reps to choose from.

The outcome has a lot of positive potential.

Members- get watches. Furthermore, members get watches they wouldn't otherwise own. Anywhere from the fun watches like DSSD's and GMTIIc's, to higher cost grail reps like the ceramic HBB's, BKV2's, DSN's, etc. Theres tons of choice here.

Dealers- don't have to donate, the raffle would pay for the watch. Being the dealer that provides a watch thats in working condition would draw business.

RWI- I would hope $5 per ticket at least, would go to RWI. A $250 watch with a 20 ticket raffle, would only cost $12.50 per ticket to pay the watch off Adding $5 for RWI makes tickets still under $20, and puts $100 in the RWI donation basket.

Anything from a $100 POrikka to a $600 Ceramic HBB would be do-able in a sense.
