So just an update,

got the camera - checked it all out and such - .. it was indeed sealed and 100% new
:)

... woo go ebay !

In this Link: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...45310p4?t=45310&page=4&highlight=seventhexile

I asked for help finding a good DSLR (on the cheap)

You all helped, I got it and here's the results (only had it for a few hours and know nothing about how to actually really use it yet :) )
- -

Here are some pics I took tonight -
photobucket decided to scale down the pics and thus some of the quality ... but you'll get the idea :)

I have a basic Canon 18-55mm lens w/ built in Image Stability - -
To take macro shots you need a macro lens which is $$
but after looking online I found a way to REVERSE the lens so..
instead of it taking pics like it normally would it acts as a macro lens..

(granted these are taken by me, someone who's had the camera for just a few hours - and knows nothing about how to properly take photos so their in focus ! )

That all being said - enjoy

- - As you can see... I really haven't mastered (in the few hours I've been playing with this) the focus feature ...

though - I think that could have something to do with the lens being reversed ;)

anyways - saved me a goof chunk of change doing it this way.

Hope you all enjoyed !

Holy crap. Only a man would get himself a fantastic new camera and start taking pictures of bugs. When I have nightmares tonight, I'm coming after YOU.

very nice, I never did that with/to my lens.

@markharris he said 18-55, so it is very likely the "new" standard Canon kit lens with IS (EF-S 18-55 mm 1:3,5-5,6) .

I have the 17-55 f2.8 IS and would not risk that.

Nice photos, though!

Excellent shots, Ex! After you get more familiar, I'd love to see you do a tutorial for non-photogs like myself. If I could get a good cheap DSLR and not have to invest a fortune in lenses etc., I'd love to learn how to do it.
Until then, my point-and-shoot is as good as it's gonna get!!

Looks like you got a good one, 7th! I remember reading about flipping around a regular to do macro photos with it but have never tried - too lazy so I just bought a cheap Tamron 70-300 zoom-macro for my Pentax. The hardest problem I've had with macro photos is getting the proper depth of field so that more than just one narrow "plane" is in focus.

Have fun with it!

Yes its the new kit lens (pretty cheap online - anywhere from $100-150)

What do you mean by "risk" it with your lens ...
am I screwing up my lens by reversing it ?

I spent some time before bed reading " Canon xsi for dummies "
I love the "for dummies" series always very helpful.

Anyways - I just learned that there was such thing as depth of field !

I just figured the camera auto-focused on the biggest image and if you wanted something else just zoom in on that.

- There's a button on my cam near the lens which lets you adjust the depth of field - so now maybe my macro shots will get the whole image of objects rather then just the narrow plane's I was able to get last night !

Because I only have one lens the coupling rings I saw were not right for the job.
And ... because I just got the cam last night there was no way I was duct taping it all up !

I found a 58mm Reverse Mount Adapter . Which lets you use 1 lens and just reverses the lens on the camera.

:)

Ahhh !!

I'd definitely buy what ever you didnt want anymore.

If only shipping wasn't so expensive across the pond !!

Thanks for the offer anyways mate.
