Hi there,

I thought it might be interesting to compare all the pearls of DSSD reps, as most are not accurate to genuine...

Here are some pics of the ULTIMATE version bought from Timesshop.net (is it a V4?)

It looks like a crystal clear plastic bubble, and according to me it is not really accurate...

Sorry for the poor quality of the pics...

Please, upload your own pics to compare, with version and references.

I have the V5 from Eurotimez. The pearl seems to be ok, it shines bluje with the same lume as the indexes and is just as strong/weak as them also. Here are a couple of pics, hope they´re not too big.

The pearl in my new eurotimez DSSD looks about the same as watchdiver's and I agree that it looks closer to the gen pearl than the bulbous pearl on some other versions:

Golgi, that is cool! I always wondered about how these pearls were constructed.

Yes, thanks for the post!

Anyone has ever seen a good rep for this pearl? They either look too bulbous or too flat...

All-in-all I'm pretty happy with the V5 pearl as it's the only one of any of my watches that is still glowing after several hours. The lume, in general, is great and was still visible and readable after 6 hours - even the pearl!

Justin, I'm getting more and more jealous of you the more you talk about your new DSSD! If it goes missing, it wasn't me......probably.

what is it with the construction of these pearls on Rolex reps? i mean really with such a simplistic little thing why is there so much discrepancy and variation with this part? and after all this time of rep manufacturing have they not got this ridiculous thing sorted out yet?

Well, for one thing (looking at golgi's tech sheet) none that I've looked at even resembled the construction of the gen! I suppose a close approximation could be a little dot of lume covered with clear epoxy or polyester resin to a level where it would be slightly rounded. I don't know if I could turn anything as small as a pearl insert on my lathe or not, I may try and see what I come up with. I could possibly turn the steel part (pearl holder?) out of some stainless... I'll try tomorrow if I have time!

Anyone know where I can buy a new v5 bezel with pearl insert as mine from Timeshops is really poor quality.?? The rest of the watch is superb but the poor quality and poor centering of the pearl insert is really starting to put me off wearing the watch...

Cheers

If only watchmaterial can come out with a blue lumed pearl, should fit the deepsea without any issue :) Look at the quality. It looks ever better then in the pictures in real life..

The DSSD gen came out in the summer of 2008. They have a two-year warranty; you won't see Rolex allowing anyone to make aftermarket parts for these (pearls, inserts, case-back dies, etc.) until the summer of 2010, at the earliest.
