Just bought a Noobmariner, fantastic rep for the price! There is however one obvious flaw that can be seen from a distance, and that's the massive oversize crown.

Anyone know where I can buy a replacement crown to Mod with? (I'm UK based..)

It must be an older noob, because the current ones have a rep crown and tube which are copies of the gen if I'm not mistaken.

If you do have the old oversized crown and rep tube, you'll have to change both crown and tube and it requires tools- the thread tape, 3.0mm x .35, and the tool for installing the tube (Ofrei and Jules Borel sell them- look under Rolex tools).

Here's a crown from a guy here in the SW US. He sells a pair for $69, might be worth it to buy two.

I've been buying the rep tubes (PN24-7030-0) from Clark's (nostalgia_2000 on the bay) and wholesaleoutlet990. They are delicate so go slowly- that's why you run the thread tap thru the case first.

Remove the old tube w/ a rat tail file and trim the crown guards a little before you put the new tube in. Use blue loc-tite to make it WR.

This place has a crown and tube- obviously copy parts- don't know if they're any good or not:

Good luck.

I bought a 6mm crown/tube set for parst4rolex and it seems very nice. Had the proper bar under the coronet, etc.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I only got this rep a week ago, I didn't realise it was an older version. Guess I should have researched a little more first.

For the prices and work required I think I'll just keep it the way it is. I might try a noob from another dealer here in the future. This one was only about £70 so I'm still happy with it for the price.

A crown and tube is about $25 with shipping from the link that alligoat listed and I just published a tutorial on how to change it, it's not that hard. The older noob is probably nicer since there's no screwed up rehaut engraving - crown is a lot easier to deal with than that! ;-)

I just bought the part! Thanks a lot guys! This is why this board is such an excellent place. I really appreciate your help. With the correct size crown I'll be 100% happy with this Rep.

When I bought the noob I was given the choice between the rehaut engraving and non engraving, natually I went for the non engraving. I didn't think anything else would be different.

Well thanks again. I'll take some before and after Mod pictures when I get the part :)

If you have just a bit of mechanical aptitude you'll have fun!. You will need to add one step to my tutorial, you'll need to transfer the new crown to the stem so you'll need to remove the old crown. On the GMT Master II I did I just heated the crown a bit with a lighter to break any thread locker that might have been there. I then grabbed the stem right underneath the crown with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and unscrewed the crown. You can then screw on the new crown and test fit it - you may or may not have to modify the stem length. If everything works - time set, date set, winding, screwing down the crown - then remove crown and refit it with a dot of thread locker on the tip of the stem before screwing it snug.

I've bought several crown/tube sets from that seller and so far have been pretty happy with his product. Oh, BTW, I ordered 2 more sets from him last week so I will be doing my Noobmariner when they come in as mine is an old one with the huge crown as well!
