H_U: Sincerly hope you find one,

bit a filling to pieces on a wholeweat pirece in a sandwich last year, had
a hectic period at work at that time so didnt go to the dentist for a couple of months.

Had to do a rootfilling that required a lot of work and my entire gums were infected.

To sum it up: It set me back a little over 1K Euros...

If you don't have any luck, try finding the best local dental school.

Prices are inexpensive and sometimes free. You get a final year student with an instructor overseeing the work or sometimes they will use you as a training case and do the work while the students watch. I've done it a couple of times with procedures that would have been very expensive otherwise (root canal/crown) and had good results.

Do your research and ask questions about how they handle the procedures.

Hey HU, sorry to hear of your misfortune.

A dentist friend of mine told me that cash up front can get you significant discounts, you just need to ask. Not surprisingly dentists spent an enormous amount of money trying to recover unpaid bills and can wait for an eternity to get paid by the insurance companies.

the main thing Stefan is to get in that chair before the tooth starts to decay. A crown should be all you need, about one hour or so and nowadays with the numbing stuff they put in your mouth you shouldnt feel anything.

Take care of that chomper.

Agreed. Get it done soon before a root canal is required. Been there, done that. And it started with the same story you told.

Man H-U sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations. Getting this addressed quickly is good advice I have been on the receiving end of a root canal by not taking care of a similar problem. Good luck my friend.

Just had mine done yesterday in Westlake Village. It was a while before that. Thankfully, no work needed - but the cleaning after a couple of years was not fun.

Hope you find someone up there.

so where do the downtrodden go for dental healthcare anyway and if they just walk in to a dentist office in terrible pain are they refused service? When they go into the emergency room at a hospital to my knowledge no one is refused service. I guess it doesnt apply to dentistry.

True story: Once my grandfather told me that when he was young they pulled his tooth out right there on the kitchen table and the only anesthesia was a shot of whiskey. He said the person who pulled his tooth took a shot first, then gave him one.

So Cybee, are you offering to pull this tooth for H-U?

As long as he has enough vicodine, maybe my canon pin puller would do the trick.

HU - call and see how much it will cost to get it looked at to see what it needs and what it will cost. On a cash basis, this rarely costs more than $75, and at least you'll know what you need and what they would charge cash.
Then look for a dental school and call them to see how it works. It is worth a long drive to save $2000+ (my recent root canal and crown was @ $2400 when it was all said and done).
You really don't want to let this fester. I've done that. It will be fine for a while then will get bad in an instant. And I mean REALLY bad.
