"Busted For Slapping Stranger’s Crying Child
Georgia man, 61, threatened to “shut that baby up†at Walmart

SEPTEMBER 2–Meet Roger Stephens. The Georgia man, 61, was shopping Monday morning at a Walmart in Stone Mountain when he crossed paths with Sonya Matthews and her two-year-old daughter Paige. The child was crying, which apparently greatly perturbed Matthews. “If you don’t shut that baby up I will shut her up for you,†Stephens warned Matthews, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department report.

Moments later, Stephens acted on his threat, slapping Paige “across the face approximately four or five times.†Though the child “started crying and screaming†after being struck, Stephens told Matthews, “See, I told you I would shut her up.†After police were summoned, Stephens told a cop that the child was crying “and he just slapped her,†according to the report. Stephens was arrested for felony cruelty to children and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Paige sustained “slight redness to the face,†but was otherwise unharmed."

Holy Crap!! Don't get me wrong, I've been annoyed by a crying baby or two, but that dude would have never lived to slap number two if that was my kid (which I don't have, but for argument's sake :p )!! My brother told me about this today so I googled it...found a Christian Right website with the story title, "Older Gentleman Politely Slaps Stranger's Crying Baby". Took me 10 minutes to figure out it was in the vein of the Onion and so forth. LMAO...it was a hilarious article after knowing this...

I would not have been as concerned about what my reaction would have been to this, as what my wife's reaction would have been. It would have taken the entire staff of Wal-Mart to pull her off this guy.

If this happened to me when I was a baby
my mom would have said :

"you didnt slap him hard enough.. he's still crying, try again."

If you have messed up kids, it is your fault. All this timeout bullshit and parents afraid to discipline their kids is the root of all these messed up disrespectful little bastards. Regardless of whether you choose to use physical discipline on your children or not is your business, but woe be unto the person that takes it upon themselves to put their hands on my kids.

Here's what every brat needs, specially those little turds crying in the supermarket, mall, etc.:

A good spanking with a belt. Worked for me and everyone with parents who cared about them. I'm sickened by the amount of parents that wouldn't dare lay a finger on them... well, good luck preventing them from kicking your ass when they're older.

I know it's not a real ad, but it's so damn close to scenes I've witnessed myself in the U.S.... I've seen one here in El Salvador but it ended on the mom almost breaking her hand on the kids butt [LOL]:

Holy crap. Are you serious?

I mean, I'd agree that there are a bunch of messed up kids out there, but going around slapping other people's kids sounds like a good idea to you?

Agreed, discipline is a must. But don't delude yourself into thinking that discipline is a simple decision of "slap kid vs. don't slap kid" or that a slapped around kid automatically becomes a well-behaved child.

My brother and his wife use non-physical discipline with their kids, now 7, 4 & 2, and they are the most well behaved awesome kids. It's about love and consistency, not belts and welts!

All you young people seem to think that brats are a modern development. Hmmm...

Good thing my son's as big as I am now, so I don't have to deal with crackers in a Wal-Mart who think they can smack my son with impunity.

Peace. [smilie=angel10.gif]

I would NEVER touch someones child in a discipline manner. Slapping the parent may have been an option though.

anyone touches my kid, slap or not, will not live to the end of the day. Nobody touches my kid like that.

In cases like this it is always good to have a can of instant hardening foam which immobilizes the
noisemaker in 2 or 3 seconds. No harm done, just poke a straw in the mouth for breathing, and when they get the child home, the foam is easily removed with a buzz saw. 8)

As an experienced parent with well adjusted kids, most of you know just how insincere I am
about this matter. :D

My dad got his ass kicked by his mom (my grandmother) his entire life. So bad to the point he joined the Army to get away from her. He never hit me, but my brother got a few beatings, and they were so epic they had names for them. We all learned not to piss the old man off pretty quick after witnessing that.
It is in my opinion, the parent who will dictate how well (or not so) a child behaves in public. No doubt in my mind you do not have to hit a child to discipline them, but in extreme cases, a smack on the ass can be very effective. Not from a stranger, IMO.

That's a bit extreme, a good spanking is good enough to calm down the kid by force, and leave him a bitter reminder of what will happen next time; Humans learn by experience.

Thats where the instant hardening foam comes in handy. Kind of sticks in the memory a bit

LOL!

Well, a hot glue gun works wonders and is easily removed with boiling water.
