Hi,

I sold a watch to a fellow member in early august, packaged it nicely
and send it with tracking # and the insurance you get when doing so (Covering loss up to 60 USD)

Problem is, that the package never arrived, here is what tracking shows:

Signed for by:
-
Reference or order number:
- History: Date Message
2 aug UNITED KINGDOM, The item has arrived at the international terminal in the destination country for sorting.
31 jul Stockholm utr, The item has been dispatched from Posten´s international terminal for onward transport abroad.
31 jul Stockholm utr, The item has arrived at Posten´s international terminal for sorting and transport abroad.
30 jul Posten Företag Östra Bangatan, The item has been redirected within Posten to a sorting terminal.
30 jul ICA Supermarket Ekersgatan, The item has been redirected within Posten to a sorting terminal.
30 jul ICA Supermarket Ekersgatan, The item has been deposited.

Now the guy I sold it to has tried to sort this out with royal mail, without any luck. He even spoke to his local post office to see if they could do anything.

I lets this one slip and the guy who bought the watch did not have to pay anything at all.
So im out of the money for shipping and a Rolex Milgauss w/ ETA.

Now im turning to you for advice. What to do? If one wants to file a complaint and get the appro. 65 USD, are there any risks?

From now on if I am selling I am not going to take any risk for shipping / customs, that will be on the buyer. :D :D

Best regards
Adn thanks in advance for any advice

Cheers
Mike

customs risk should be on the buyers side......if a private sale.

or 50 - 50. customs cant be predicted.

things can go wrong....if you are in Europe, sell within Europe.

if youre in conus, its more safe to sell within conus.

Yes, I know H_U.

Sold from me in Sweden to the UK -> No customs risks what so ever.

The problem here is that Royal Mail has screwed up and lost the package

Sorry to hear that. Just to clarify: did you get the money for the watch from the buyer??

In the end I let the buyer of the hook and he got his money back!

I guess that if it was an expensive watch, I probably would have claimed the loss from the post office, and gone halves with the buyer on the difference (i.e., refunded him half of what you couldn't claim from postal services). If it was a watch around 100 bucks or so I would have just not bothered and taken the loss. That has never happened to me, but I did lose three packages coming from overseas into the UK last year (two from Lello with some datwheels and one from Gunny with a strap).

Sold the watch for 165 + shipping,

the issue im having with claiming the loss is that in the insurance terms it states that package including goods of a higher value than 65 USD (But in swedish krona :D ) does not get replaced at al and illegal and/or counterfeit goods does not get replaced :D

So if Im to make a claim we better say that it is something else, and make a PP transaction of an amount of 65 USD to have some proof of transaction.

But, what are the risks if they find the package?! :D

Thanks for the answers Rooster!

I see what you mean. I guess the question is: does $60 make a difference to you? If so, then go ahead and claim it. They're never going to find the package, and if they do, I doubt it's ever going to create any trouble.

Its not a lot of money, and if it was a pure business transaction then it would not be any issue. But this is "toy" money. And every penny you can get by without spending in this hobby is worth saving imo :D No matter how I always spend too much on watches :D

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Rooster, appreciated!

Mike

let it go, my friend...

60 is not really worth the trouble...

It is not a lot of money, that I agree to.

It would have been easier to just let this go if cumstoms had seized it etc
but knowing that it is the fríggi´n post office that screwed up irritates me a bit :D

Exactly! I would claim it just in principle. I actually just remembered now that I did lose another package recently. CBR sent me a movement from the States and it never arrived in the UK. He could'n claim anything form the PO and I lost my hundred bucks or so (though CBR did offer to refund me the money, I couldn't possibly accept it).

I'm all in favour of making postal services pay for their screw ups!
