Re: WARNING ABOUT SUBMITTING YOUR DRIVERS' LICENSE TO WATCHEDEN

Just to let everyone know, we've received a response from Watcheden, and the Admin and Mod Squad are discussing it now. I hope to have a resolution on this pretty soon.

Regardless of the reason.

It is INSANE to have a copy of your drivers license "EVEN ON YOUR COMPUTER FOR ANY REASON" due to the plain fact of possible identity theft.

Then you add in the possibility of it being picked up even sending it to a U.S. company over your network etc.

But when you factor in all the possibilities when sending it all the way to china, via the internet, you are running a 1 in 3 chance (based on general internet security statistics) of having it stolen.

The only way it could even be "sort of" safe would be to fax it.

According to an email sent by Watcheden, it appears that they are requesting not only a copy of your drivers' license, but also a photocopy of your credit card itself.

I don't how any dealer could even have a second chance let alone be trusted doing business this way.

Thanks for the info... wonder why do they need DLs. Buying reps should be hassle-free. Now I think it's far better to buy gens direct from a legitimate store rather than gamble on one's identity theft from being happening.

I guess whatever it is Sean and company have not been satisfied since WE is still missing from our 'Experts' list.

I sure would be interested to know if it's a general replica watch issue, a finance company getting picky or a WE induced requirement. Either way they won't be getting my driver license details.

Re: WARNING ABOUT SUBMITTING YOUR DRIVERS' LICENSE TO WATCHEDEN

We've spoken about this issue with Tony. Here's the bottom line. Tony was getting a lot of chargebacks on credit cards. A lot of these chargebacks turned out to be fraudulent and were with stolen cards. At the advice of his credit card processing company, Tony asked for a photocopy of a drivers' license and a photocopy of the credit card itself. We told him that we weren't going to permit this for RWI members.

To his credit, Tony immediately contacted us and said that because we had worked with him for so long, and because he really values RWI's members and customers, he agreed to not ask for any additional documentation from any RWI members. So all RWI members can continue to use their credit cards when ordering from Watcheden.

One thing I'll say. We've had a lot of dealers in the time I've been on RWI. Tony is one of the few that has consistently demonstrated that he is willing to work with us to address any issues or problems. And once we told him how much we disliked this idea about the drivers' license, he heard our complaints, and he bent over backwards to take care of it. So Tony's section is visible again, and I think we can put this whole thing behind us.

Fantastic! A big thankyou to RWI Admin and Mod Squad. I really appreciate the way you promptly and efficiently handle things like this. I know that saying thanks is the only way to express what I feel, traveling all over the world in order to hug you would feel weird both for you and me, but I think it is time for some donations to keep this boat going.

Again, a big thankyou, also to Tony for acting on this.

Sweet.

Thanks to everybody involved.

All my current watches i bought from Watcheden and i was very satisfied with the overall experience.

So i'm happy that he cleared this up and i can recommend members again to have a look at his cheap entry level Pam 111h :D

While I'll never be WE's greatest fan boi it is great to see the faith placed in RWI and it's members by the managment of WE that is demenstrated by this turnabout. Credit must also go the the admin team in brokering a outcome benificial to all parties. This is one very safe comunity thanks to the dilligence of those who watch over us.

Well done RWI and Watcheaden.

Thanks Sean, from the responses you can see that we all appreciate your efforts.

I have to say I'm puzzled as to how someone with a stolen credit card can profit by doing a charge back. Am I missing some devious trick these low-lives are using?

They can change the owner's adddress. But the fact is that most chargebacks are done by people trying to rip the dealers off.

Yes, I think you're right Fakey.

Here's how I think it works. Joe Blow is on the internet and finds a neat watch. He's had a few too many beers that night and so he pulls out his over-extended CC and orders a watch. The funky CC process with multiple requests for his CC number is a little weird but he sticks with it. The following day he gets a little nervous but waits anyway. 3 days later he hasn't received a confirmation and so after checking out all the horror stories on the internet he does a chargeback. Meantime, Tony, who is just trying to run a business, gets hit with the chargeback. No doubt the CC company still wants their pound of flesh so Tony ends up losing out.

I just don't go with the fraudulent claims; I think it's just the nature of this dirty business. Of course I could be wrong ...

I would imagine they get a fair amount of chargebacks from people who think they are getting a perfect copy of a gen watch for $88.

"Hey, this doesn't look exactly like my buddies gen Rolex. I got ripped off. I'm calling my credit card company."

I am new to the forum, and was thinking of making a purchase from WE, so Just out of curiosity then, how will they know if you are an RWI member?
