My advice is that if a rep is a keeper, get it serviced as soon as you get it.

Sounds like another crappy 7750.

Despite these types of reviews, I pulled the string on a BCE with Hont. Not because I want a chrono but because I want to see the rep.

Here's my Noob question: Is there a better way to find a local watchsmith who will work on this movement? It sems that I should pay for it to be cleaned, check and regulated if I want to be happy with it for at least a few years.

I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks :!:

IMOA none of us should buy a rep with the 7750 movement untill they sort these problems out

Sorry, but these posts about the 7750s always make me smile. I know I am a sample of one, but I have had bucketloads of Asian 7750s and never ever had a problem with any of them. I am talking looooads of them... many of which I still have and wear, and have been super-accurate for a long time. You may call it luck. Or maybe it's the fact that I look after them from day 1. Regardless, despite some well-documented exceptions on some Breitlings, I'm yet to see any convincing evidence that the Asian 7750 is a movement we should stay away from.

The so-called Swiss 7750 is the genuine article on which the Asian 7750 being talked about here is based. If you really like a chrono rep and think it's an absolute keeper, you can conbsider throwing a genuine ETA 7750 in it.

That's reassuring, and I appreciate it. I'll just see what Hont sends me and go from there.

Its a straight swap only if the existing a7750 is of the older, 21.8k beat type right? Otherwise the hands dont fit? Is it possible to mod the hands, or is that too complicated..

Yeah I know there are lots of other threads about this :). However whilst we are still at it..

Yeah I live in Atlanta and am having a hard time finding anyone that will touch the A7750. Did find one spot that was REP somewhat friendly and reluctantly agreed to work on ETA movements.

I would study up to fix and do some of the easier things I have read about but I dont have the time or patience to fiddle with a watch for hours.

Because of the problems with the A7750 I have steered clear of complicated watches and these are my favorite. The one exception is the Daytona I just picked up from CBR who had it regulated and serviced when received. Hopefully this one will give me some good service. I will keep you posted.

The funny thing is there are those that won't buy another A7750 and then I read about many many others who have multiple watches with the A7750 and have never had a problem at all.

What gives? CBR did mention in the mini-review of the Daytona that the movement had been refined on the fit, finish and addition of a jewel when running seconds @6.

I'm not gonna crack the back to find out what these changes look like.

Yeah, any chrono that I consider will not have sec@6, based all those problems. Regardless, I just ordered my first A7750 and have my fingers crossed :!:

I don't think you got a response to this Q. 317L is an industrial alloy, I believe, that isn't found in the jewelry industry, in my experience. 316L is what we'll see. 316L is cheap, plentiful and, I suspect, easier on the CNC machines than 317L would be.
