My new GMT IIc arrived last week from one of the preferred dealer. It has a very loud clanging noise (presumable rotor) when shaken (gently), the noise goes away after 30 seconds of shaking, but comes back sporadically during the day. Is seems that it keeps good time and the motion does wind the watch. Can one of the forum regulars please comment on the best resolution? I could send it back and wait another 2 months, I have read extensively here about having a watchmaker open it up and put some 9010 oil on the rotor movement. Is there any other possible scenarios?
I would also like to ensure the watch is spash proof or possible swimming, perhap you could also comment on the best way to acheive that?
Your help is much appreciated.

If you are even remotely comfortable opening a watch... I suggest you do it yourself. I will all but guarantee that you can open a brand new watch with a ball of tape. Ive never seen a new replica that could not be opened this way.
Once open just very carefully see if the screw holding the rotor is completely screwed in. It may be that it is loose and banging around. Ive seen new watches where the rotor was not even attached and the rotor AND the screw were floating around inside the case.
If it is tight, then yes, you can put the very smallest amount of oil in the rotor ball bearings.
I WOULD NOT suggest it be sent back to the dealer. It will take awhile, and its really a rather simple matter to resolve.
BUT, I would also suggest you NOT do this yourself if you are the least bit uncomfortable. Try to find a local watch maker who is comfortable working on replicas or contact one of the modders here.
Good luck, the GMT IIc is a great watch and my daily wearer while my U Boat is out for reluming!

Thanks,
I think that I'll leave it to the experts. Does anyone know a watchmaker in Sydney, Australia that will look at a replica (that can also pressure test it)? Or perhaps even a replica fanatic that knows what they're doing (in Sydney Australia)

I just recently got a PAM222 from PWC, and I have this exact same problem!! :( And after reading extensively from RWI and RepGeek, and had a local watch smith to add a bit of high heat silicon to the ball bearing, the noise stay the same :( The watch smith said he couldn't do anything with it and I am not too sure that if he was just too scared of doing what I asked him to do. Basically he gave me back the watch with the same watch and didn't ask for any money. And this is a rep friendly watch smith a fellow member told me about in Toronto, Canada area.

So can anyone else recommend me a GOOD rep friendly watch smith in Toronto, Canada area that can get this problem resolved? It's killing me hearing this clashing sound..

Thanks!
