As a former band geek, Williams was one of the most diffucult composers that I have ever had the pleasure to play. With a tip of the hat to the most notable compositions, here are four that are most memorable to me:
Liberty Fanfare - for the rededication of The Statue of Liberty
Olympic Fanfare and Theme - for the '84 Summer Olympics
Prelude and Fugue (1965)
and my own personal favorite..... Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra (1985)
Being a bass clef player, Williams was most generous with giving everyone in the score their fair share of the limelight. Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra is, by far, one of the most brutal pieces I've ever played,
Thanks for taking me on a stroll down memory lane!
