Chud - a Duc is NEVER a good first bike. You will kill yourself. I've had 2 but have been on bikes almost daily since age 11. The R6 is a better choice, but still quite twitchy.
Start with something used, @600-750cc. You'll be amazed at the performance. Hone your skills over the next couple of years and then you can CAREFULLY move up to these true track bikes.
Eventually you'll be an old fat man resigned to a cruiser... like me!!
Have fun but PLEASE be careful. Just remember that behind the wheel of every car out there is a donut eating idiot who will actually make an effort to hit you.

Just when I'm trying to wrap my mind around the idea of people taking pictures of their watches while driving down a five lane highway, now I have to see pictures taken from a moving motorcycle? BurgerFlaggen, you're my Mountain leader (okay admittedly, you may also be the only person in your region) and I can't have you becoming roadkill. :)
hehhh heehhhhh

as an avid rider myself, let me explain.

BF has a camera mount on his bike. Kinda like a permanent tripod stuck to the handlebar. It is already aimed and pointed at the road. All he has to do is to click the camera when there is a picture he wants to take.
In fact I know someone who shoots video this way. I know another person who has it jammed in his helmet behind the visor. He narrates the video at the same time.

Now, holding the camera the way we normally take pictures AND riding. Now that is a candidate for RoadKill.

Well, I suppose if I start a thread, I should pay attention shouldn't I?
I have just read all three pages for the first time since my original post, and I must admit that those pictures were not taken from a mounted camera of any sort.
Those were taken with my mobile phone camera, attested to by their graininess and slight lack of focus.
The 3 on straight road were at approx. 55 to 60 mph, and the one in the curve was around 45mph.
That was a 520 mile run, and it was an absolute delight.
If I remember and find another moment to log in, I'll post another snap or two that show the windshield as I held the phone above it.

You folks are absolutely right; a Duc is not a good starter bike. A Buell Blast is a good, friendly, easily manageable and inexpensive first horse.

Well, that's what I hear anyway.
The motorcycle safety courses use them, and I have read about them being a good starter bike in mags and forums.
I've never been on a Buell myself; not that I don't like the brand, just not my style.
My scoot is a late '90s Road King with more custom stuff than I can list here.

My own starter bike was a '66 BSA chopped and converted to a hardtail.

Here are a couple more shots where I caught the windshield in the bottom of the pic.

Here's another nice scene as I navigate a bend in the road.

very good pics for a mobile phone.

The Blast is one hell of a thumper. It's like the entire bike is a moving earthquake at low revs.

Yeesh. You just don't care if I ever get to sleep at night, do you? I'm rather fond of you, myself, and if some paramedics have to scrape you out of a ditch with a spatula, I may never forgive you.

Is there a smiley out there with a decent pout?
