Evaluation of EuroTimez V5 DSSD compared to my Gen.
Dealer Service: I received EuroTimez V-5 DSSD about 8 days ago. The ordering went without a hitch and the communication was good as well. It took about 10 days from time of order to USPS knocking at my door (not too bad). However, the Rolex Box Set for $98.00 bucks is still not here and was requested EMS as well. Hopefully it will arrive separately and soon, and I am waiting back for an e-mail from them but it has only been a day since sent.
First off, I want members reading this to know I am PICKY but a “picky reasonable†if that makes sense. While I don’t post much, I’ve been collecting since about 2006, and I don’t profess to be a WIS, but I’m not completely ignorant of the flaws and strengths that we typically find and look for.
Finally, there are already fine pictures of the EuroTimez V5 posted by others on the forum so I’ll skip the picts as my picture taking skills suck anyway.
Watch Details: Okay, now to the watch…
I have a genuine Rolex 2008 DSSD and I will base my comparison of the V-5 to my Gen.
· I will start with the dial and confirm that my Gen Rolex DOES have a slight gray (in certain light) to the overall black dial. The V-5 does not show any slight gray in the dial that I can see and the dial itself appears to (approximately) have the correct appearance.
· The V-5 DOES HAVE the correctly beveled date-window (most exciting!)
· The font on the dial looks pretty damn good to me as well.
· The markers on the dial appear to be just slightly larger on the V-5, but the difference is so minute (or I may be wrong) that I hesitated even mentioning it.
· The pearl on the V-5 does not have that fake “plastic†look that many reps have, and it looks pretty damn real to me. It is however, a shade lighter (or duller) then on my Gen, but again one would have to have Gen next to them to probably notice this.
· The lume is “good†on the pearl and the hands, and is noticeably weaker on the markers but still not bad, and they are all blue. It does take a good 40-50 seconds to “fully charge†the lume. I have not sat around to see how long it lasts, but they were still going strong after 5 minutes of watching.
· The writing inside of the watch “ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE-RING LOCK SYSTEM†Does not have the “etched and painted in†look that earlier versions have. That is GOOD, as my Gen looks more painted on, as does this version.
· The ceramic bezel insert looks freaking great on the V-5 and the font and size of numbers looks dead on to me.
· The crown guard is perhaps just a tad larger, but to me you really need to study it next to Gen, and again I may be just nitpicking, as it is really close.
· The band itself is gorgeous, and is very well made. I had a problem with a V-4 from King were the Glide-Lock did not “stick†or “hold†in the teeth. The band I have on the V-5 seems to just be made better, and the Glide-Lock so far, is holding up. The only real disappointment is the inside “Script Rolex†design is obviously not as “crisp†as my Gen.
· The case back font and two-piece construction looks pretty damn dead on to me.
· The overall watchcase looks dead on in design, construction, and quality “feel.â€
· The weight of the watch feels “right†and is nice and heavy compared to my Gen.
· Finally, and again I may be crazy, but the center of the HEV valve seems “just slightly†more rounded then the “flat†center of the HEV valve on my Gen. Again, the difference is small and I would not have noticed unless I had a Gen in hand and was studying the hell out of it.
Now this may come as a surprise to some, but overall, I was impressed enough upon receiving the Version 5 to decide that it really is (finally) close enough to the Gen, to put my Gen DSSD up on eBay. Which just sold under “Warrcraft†for any of you that may have seen the listing.
So do I think this is a “Super Rep?†I guess that would depend on if you think a “Super Rep†should be completely flawless or not. The watch in my opinion does have some of the mentioned minor flaws, BUT (and that is a BIG BUT), it also is so close that I am really overall finally very pleased and I think it is as close to a “Super Rep†that I have seen. Again, you need to decide personally, but the watch is damn nice and I am proud to wear it!
Best of collecting to all of you and I hope this helps!
