Hi guys I have an Omega Speedmaster Reduced Model. For some reason the watch runs ok for awhile but will stop after a couple of hours. The strange thing is the small seconds hand will sometimes continue to run but the main hands freeze. The hands set fine as they should. Is it just in a need of a service or does it sound like something is seriously wrong?

Post a pic of the watch. Is the movement in the hacked position?

No way to know without seeing it. Take it to a local watchsmith and have them take a look.

The local watch makers here are terrible. The guy closest to me is about 90 and wont touch anything incase he "breaks it" and a certain well known jewellers wants 280pounds to service it. The crown is pushed in fine, I dont know how to open the caseback as I think it is a snap on caseback and dont want to damage it. There is a strange clicking noise when I try and wind the crown when it is pushed in though?

Welll rep or not it is a mechanical watch so it costs money to service. But on the flip side if you can't fix it then you can toss it and get another. So tell the 90 year old guy 'IT'S ALREADY BROKE' and you don't care.

No you'll toss it or 'flog it' as you say here once you reach 50 quality posts. You don't sell reps on Ebay.

ROFLMAO!! It's a gen? I will buy it! Seriously, ask around in this forum for someone in your area who is reliable or go to an AD. TBH, I would send it to Omega.

Well it seems to run fine for a few hours if its on the wrist but after a couple of hours I would notice that the main hands have stopped even though the seconds sub dial is still moving. If I adjust the time again it would run fine for another few hours before it stops again. Theres also a slight clicking noise when it is wound.

Would you actually buy it? lol. An AD would charge way too much and money is very tight at the min..... help!!

You can't sell it here on RWI in this thread and you don't have the qualifications to do so in our sales sections. This rule for selling is here to protect us as well as it is to protect you. But, if you post some pictures of your watch we may be able to give you some guidance as to the condition and possible value. Another venue to try is TimeZone.com.

BTW if you get an offer for 200.00 via PM (which is also not cool), I think they might be taking advantage of you.

When you buy a gen the costs of repairs and maintenance are part of the equation. If your Rolex dies you don't toss it, you fix it.

Yea i understand that, that is another reason to try and get my 50 posts. I will try and get some pictures posted, its in mint condition with papers, tag, boxes, manuals and all! Seems abit of a waste to sell it unserviced but I wouldnt have the time to send it away to do a service. Always looked the look of them, look of a moon watch but practicality of an auto movement. If I get a decent amount I would maybe sell it to fund a different watch.

Well getting posts in order to sell your watch shouldn't be the goal. So don't do that. And since this is a gen you would need 250. So plan on holding onto it for a while.

Oh yea sorry I had read that actually. Obviously the main reason I joined was to learn about the reps and to throw my 2 cents worth in too. I think I would ebay the gen if I was going to sell it anyway. Thanks for the reminder though
