Hello there everyone.
I'm new @ this forum
My name is Joris and I'm from the Netherlands.

I'm not familiar with repairing watches.
But I've got this IWC Big Pilot who's crown is a bit f*cked.

The crown can't be screwed back on the watch.
So I think the thread is damaged (you can call it lamb??).

Does anybody know how to repair it?

A picture of the watch:

Many thanks,

Joris

Push in the crown and rotate it counter-clockwise until you feel a click... then go clockwise..... the counter-clockwise will help to get it started....

Do make sure you are pushing in on the crown too though...

Well, I don't think that's the problem.
I know how to put the crown back to watch :D It worked....but not anymore.

I can rotate the crown a much as I want...but the crown won't get back to the watch.

I think the screw-thread is f*cked

Did you turn counter-clockwise until you feel it click or is the beginning thread gone....

And don't take offense to the pushing it in part... had someone buy a watch from me and that was their issue...

I can't feel a click, when I turn it counter-clockwise....
So the beginning of the thread is gone?

Do you know how to repair it? :|

Thanks.

I would pop the back and use tweezers and a paperclip to release the watch stem and really get an eyeball of the end of the stem to see if there is any damage to the thread. More than likely, the crown threads are stripped and you'll just need to buy a new crown from someone who's got spare parts hanging around (post in the WTB thread). Otherwise, you can try finding someone who has a rep like yours that's junked and buy a new stem, but you'll have to make sure it's got the same movement.

If you're more daring (like me) I'll tell you what I would do. Take the stem out and take the very smallest dab of super glue you can manage to fit on the end of the watch stem and screw it into your crown with that tiny of tiniest dabs of superglue on the end and then let it dry. Then replace the stem and crown and bingo you're in business. If the rep was pretty cheap to begin with that's what I would do. Let me qualify that statement by saying that I'm much better at breaking watches than fixing them and I tend to try more "experimental" fixes if I can so that may not be something you want to do, but I'm sure it will fix your problem. If you don't want to do any of that stuff, let me know how much you want for the watch and maybe I'll buy it off you. Plenty of options on this on.

Allright.
I'm going to pop the back...and see what's underneath :p

I'll look for some spare parts....and maybe I can repair the watch.

Thanks for the information.

If there is somebody else with a suggestion.....let me know!

Okay, update!

The thread of the stem isn't damaged.

(this is called the "stem" right??)

Maybe the first few millimetres of this thread...is a bit bad (I don't think it's THAT bad).

I don't know what's the problem right now....
Is it the crown that must be replaced???

Thanks.

Hello
I´m not a watchsmith but by looking at your pictures it seems that the damaged threads should be on the pinion inside the crown. I cant see it on the pictures but you have to look inside the crown from underneath and se if there is threads on the pinion.
Hope that helps!

Yes,
I checked the inside of the crown...and I can't see any threads on the pinion.

So, I should look for a new crown.

Thanks.
