I always took you for a DB kind of guy seanf...can't think why???
I think Ferrari took the makers of the old 240Z to Ferrari GTO to court over copyright infringment years ago if memory serves...that basically stifled the market...

I'm still seeing that kit being made...in bulk.
That's a pretty popular conversion for the 240Z; not to mention guys dropping in your run-of-the-mill Chevy 350 as well as LS1 (or variant) into those cars (and kits).

What about a 1957 Porsche Speedster (replica)?

Here's a link to a forum I still frequent. You can log on as a Guest and see how you like it:

http//www.speedsterowners.com

There are many manufacturers: Vintage Speedsters, Beck Speedsters, Intermecanica, etc.

I had one made in 2001 for four years made by Vintage Speedsters in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. I paid $18,000 used, kept it four years, and sold it for $16,000. It's a fiberglass body on a shortened VW-pan, has a VW engine (from 1600cc - 2600cc. mine was 1776cc and fast) so it's cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to maintain, etc. and a blast to drive. I sold it last year along with my 2005 Mini Cooper S Cabriolet to buy my dream car....2002 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet.

sean, got any pics of your 66?
I posted some here of the 67 coupe I finished recently: http://forum.replica-watch.info/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=48561&st=0&sk=t&sd=a The pics are down toward the bottom of the page.

Love what you've done with it. I like the color and the interior. Did you have to sandblast it? How much did the new paint job run you?

My '66 is undergoing a transformation at the moment. Needs a full paint job. I just got some 10 spoke Shelby rims which have transformed the car. Only now, the damn tires are too big (they're hitting the inside of the wheel well). So it's back to the tire store to get some slightly more narrow tires.

@sean: Thanks man, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :) The steering wheel is a moto lita, and I highly recommend it if you are thinking of getting a new one.

I didn't sandblast. It had virtually no rust so I just sanded it down to the original primer and skim coated what areas were necessary with filler. I work for a commercial painting contractor so I got all the paint from one of my sales reps for really cheap. I got this guy I knew who has a booth to prime, block (I helped block) and do the base & clear on it for $1500, and another guy I knew buffed it out for $150. The first guy also did a bit of rust repair on the lower corners of the back glass and near the left rear wheel well. It's far from perfect but I think it turned out ok. Since it was a color change it needed a full paint job: under the hood, trunk & jambs, so I think I got a pretty good deal. I'm not sure what prices are where you live but around here a halfway decent paint job starts at about 3-4k.

Those 10 spokes are nice. Since you haven't painted it yet, it wouldn't be too bad to try rolling the fenders a bit if you want to run with wider rubber. That is, if you don't mind the body looking slightly different than stock.

I need new wheels for mine, the slot mags I have on it are just an interim solution. I was looking at the Vintage Wheel Works 50 series. They are very similar to the shelby wheel. Unfortunately I'm spending all my money on rep watches :D

THOUGHT YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE THIS.....

http://jalopnik.com/5065896/hand+made-lamborghini-built-in-basement-finally-sees-light-of-day

A GUY BASICALLY HAND BUILT HIS OWN LAMBORGHINI REPLICA IN HIS BASEMENT. TOOK 10 YEARS. ONCE HE WAS DONE, HE HAD TO REMOVE A WALL AND DIG A RAMP DOWN TO HIS BASEMENT TO GET IT OUT.

IT'S PROLLY THE MOST ACCURATE REPLICA I HAVE SEEN TO DATE FOR THAT CAR.

MY BEST FRIEND IN HIGH SCHOOL'S DAD HAD A FERRARI 308KIT MADE FROM A FIERO. HE GOT IT FROM A TITLE LOAN THAT WAS NOT PAID (HE OWNED A PAWN SHOP)

AS EVERYONE ELSE HAS STATED, 50K OR BETTER FOR SOMETHING THAT EVEN COMES CLOSE TO BEING ACCURATE. OTHERWISE, IT'S JUST A WASTE IN TIME AND MONEY.
