Exactly. And in every situation where your life depends on it you'll find people use quartz. Autos are a fashion statement and have their place.

Is that necessary? First post and that's what you come up with? What's your problem?

MODs: For the record, REMF stands for "rear-echelon mother-fucker"

Got no problem, just opinions... Am I not right, or?! Think back, how would you felt about it, back when you've recently dropped the hat? :D

This is the dark side, so why not a witty first post. :p

I wouldn't worry about it, Para...
Perhaps he never had to stay with a RBE (neither did I, for that matter, but...), then again, he might just have gotten on this site to post here.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't give it any second thought.

I have a 0321 secondary MOS, going on my 3rd shift in the sandbox...if that's aimed at me, McRae, go ahead and poke fun...
This is a watch forum, not a cadre vs. boot forum...and I'm far from that. So go easy, buddy.

If that's the truth, no offense, I'd doubt he'd post that kinda info on here...

Again, thanks for your advice guys. I bought a casio on ebay today. It should last a while. It's quartz.

I didn't realize this thread was still alive... Thanks for addressing it too Dreadnought.
I have been an enlisted longer than an officer and I have seen that type of elitism and accompanying belittling attitude is a pet peeve of mine... you get guys who treat other service members differently depending on their rank, how many "scary badges" they got (and it used to be, whether you wear a combat patch)... and they can tell character with the uniform... I wish it were that simple... I don't even like to wear anything else but flag and unit... and I don't need to, and couldn't even if I wanted to, wear my vitae... and folks I served with knew anyway... a number of older guys in group feel the same way I do.

Anyway, the truth is until recently transport units (i.e., support... traditionally rear-echelon) saw MORE combat than infantry in Iraq... I can point out anyone to published data on this. Most of the action has been taking place on the roads and, guess what, transport guys put more miles on them than anybody.

Anyway... I think McRae's post would have left little to interpretation to most service members (well Army in particular...) and such disrespect ticks me off... that's why I posted what I did... now, misunderstandings can easily occur via written media, particularly with folks who don't know you and we all sometimes slip.

I don't have anything against McRae and he probably is a great guy but I think his first post stunk... and I agree with Dreadnought, it's no big deal.

Dreadnought: Ready to ship out for 3 in OIF? Well, you know what to expect then  With any luck, you're going to the same area! In all seriousness, thanks to you and, equally, to yours, and do your job as great as you know how.
