Buying replicas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

So I have been in Asia for several weeks now. I flew in to Bangkok for two weeks, then was supposed to go to Osaka for a week. Unfortunately protesters have shut down the BKK airport for a week now. I needed to find a way out of Bangkok, so I decided to head to Kuala Lumpur to visit a friend, then leave from Malaysia to go back home to the states.

Shopping for replicas in Bangkok was a bit disappointing. I did find a few good reps, but they were few and far between. I was able to find a good graham, rolex and a breitling or two. Stock was pretty limited and I did not see any of the brand new models. MBK wasn't that great either.

Petaling street street in Kuala Lumpur was much better. I had met a dealer on a previous trip and went back to see him. This time I arrived early and had a chance to talk with him at length. I found out that he was previously a drop shipper which Andrew used when shipping out of Malaysia. He had all the top quality replicas, including brand new models like the V2 blacksteel. Reasonable prices too. He claimed to have over 1000 hi quality replicas in stock.

Here are a few pics that I snapped.

Looks like you had a great trip with some adventure in BKK.
The quality of the reps looks real good, I like the HBO and the black steel.

Problem is deciding on which ones to get... So many nice reps. There are a few that I didn't like in the pics look great on my wrist. Sure is nice seeing before you buy.

Interesting... Looks like the quality in Petaling street has improved. I used to go there a bit until two or three years ago, and bought a few reps. However, the quality left much to be desired, and many watches didn't last very long. Looks like they have raised their game.

Nice....

What are you planning to get?

How did you manage to get them to show you the super reps? I mean what I saw were low grade and crappy reps display everywhere. And when I ask for higher quality reps, some seem not interested to entertain me and some showed but very limited range to select.

Do you need to follow them to some secret office to view the reps? How do they feel if you didn't get anything from them at the end of the day?

Need to learn something from you.

Thanks

I too would be very interested in this info, I have family in KL (Bangsar) and if I knew where to get high end reps this would certainly be something good! I went to China Town with my girlfriends Dad and when he asked to see "the good stuff" which they kept hidden away in briefcases even that stuff was sub par. I didnt know anything about reps at the time and thats what sparked my interest.

Also those prices on the tags cant be right? I assume you can bargain WAY lower than that? RM7000 is just silly :p

The prices listed are nowhere close to the prices he offered. I'm not quite sure why they are listed that way. Also, I think it's important that everyone know that 99% of the reps in Petaling Street are pure crap. You have to ask around and very few of the dealers carry the good stuff. The dealer also mentioned that he rarely if ever sells to locals. He says they aren't interested in paying that much for a replica.

None of the good reps were displayed. Quick call on the radio, and the special breifcases arrived. He did ask me what I wanted to see first. I didn't have to leave the booth and go to some deep dark alley like I had to in Thailand...

I think I am going to pick up A BR02 (new version) and a grand carrera. The blacksteel is also very tempting, but the price is still quite a bit. I had my heart set on a white bently flying b, however he is out of stock on the white one. I found I also really liked the big bang king much more in person than in pictures. Choices, choices....

Oh I should have also mentioned something funny I saw. While chinatown was setting up, about 8 cops walked through the market. They just wandered through. Didn't stop anyone from setting up their stands full of fake stuff. I guess they were there to collect their payoffs... :p I noticed that at least two of the cops were wearing fakes. One had a ugly gold datejust, and another had a rep panerai on. Had to laugh to myself.

It's a very strange thing in Petaling... The government is trying really hard to crack down on counterfeit goods and have set a target a few years away by which to clear the streets. But enforcement is volatile and for some odd reason their main targets are DVDs and CDs. I have been to Petaling at times when the cops turned up and something odd happened: all the DVD and CD sellers disappeared within seconds, and their stock vanished. After a while the cops were there so frequently that these DVD and CD sellers only started using makeshift shops rather than fixed stalls. And all of this, of course, was happening while other guys happily continued selling counterfeit Rolexes, Prada bags and Gucci shoes... I really can't explain the double standard. Perhaps Hollywood and the music industry have been lobbying governments more than apparel and watch manufacturers? Who knows... But it's odd.

Its not the cops who in charge with all this fakes thing overthere...its more the the trade ministry of something...once they come ..alll the stall willl close n shut their display n stand infront of them...but still full of shit...once they leave everyone open it....

I live in KL and get my good quality reps from a trusted guy in Petaling. He is a bit pricey (you pay roughly 15-20% of the marked price, prices are in line with our trusted dealers here) but he also has a showroom nearby and that is a big plus if you want to take your time inspecting goods (a must really). I bought all sorts from him including a watch winder and 20 plus reps. He has got a good selection (some amazing tourbillion at the moment) but availability is linked to his boss monthly trips to China. If you are interested I can PM his contact details
