Quick !! Get me an old priest and a new one !

I got a little dust under the lens of my sub (my first and most loved rep)
also wanted to quiet the rotor a little as well. The movement has been working great, but slightly loud. (as a lot of a21j's are)

anyways.. I opened it up and while handling the movement I accidentally dropped it !
ok.. no big deal (At least thats what I told myself as my heat beat quickly)
When I picked it up I noticed it looked a little different, but couldn't put my finger on it.
Anyways being the curious engineer I am.. I did what all engineers do when trying to fix something they know little about..
I poked the movement in different places w/ my small screw driver watching how everything worked..
everything seemed to be fine .. so I put the case back on the watch and laid it on top my bureau.

3 days later I noticed... the second hand was still ticking..
now.. this is a watch I had let sit for maybe 4 days prior to picking it up to work on, then setting it back down.
All of which took maybe an hour.. and in that time the movement must have only moved for about 10-15 min total.

(I wore it today so I couldn't tell you if it was going to die on day 4 or not.. next time I'll have to just leave it.. but that will take alot of self control as I enjoy wearing it so much)

Do your watches commonly stay ticking for 3-4 days w/ out use? ..

It never used to stay going for that long prior to my poking around..
musta hit something good in there while poking around!
.. er... I mean.. after my calculated approximations of strategical insertion points, the movement was probed by the 2mm screwdriver. There is empirical evidence to suggest the a21j movement has undergone a beneficial change to the power reserve which now lasts 3-4 days, given error approximation.. cough.. something like that ...
My engineering teachers would be proud of those run on sentences that lacking all known grammatical laws, my English teachers would shed tears!

:D

But seriously..
how long do your watches stay ticking when not in use?
Most of mine last a 1 1/2 days.. 2 1/2 maybe..
but 3-4 none of my others do that..

Hmmmm, 4 days would be something.

I had a cheap Rollie that I bought from a member for $50 that had what looked like a $5 movement inside. It could sit for weeks and if you just moved it, it would start ticking. Never had to wind it. Just pick it up and it would start. Maybe that's what you're seeing.

The most I've ever gotten out of a watch was 61 hours. I had to work on it for a week straight to tweak it out.

Maybe it was just a fluke or I can't count..
so assuming I can't count
well say it was 3 days ..
still a hell of a time.

must be like KBH said - I'm impressed w/ the movement ..
wish I know what I did in there, so I could do it to my other ones.

Does it keep time?

I have seen some movement lasted a week, usually the same movement will just have a power reserve of 2 days. It ticks but doesn't keep time for that long.

The date was off by a day..
but most likely was just me setting it wrong.

The time was about er.. maybe 1 min off if that..
but like I said it might have been a whole day off
(though.. seems unlikely)

I left it on my bureau again and am going to keep a very close eye on it in terms of total duration of time it lasts w/ out me touching it.. and time it looses over the days its not worn.

I started that yesterday around 4:00 pm..
well see if it was just a fluke

My watches last 3 days...(2 on the mostly short period..but ok)

...Maybe I could just start tossing movements on the ground to see if it can do a significant change to the power reserve, or I could try the wall too...
Tell me, do you think tossing a movement within the case would help too? I will probably avoid that thinking of the scratches on the case and stuff.

Interesting labor test you got there..lol

J/K ... lol ...Anyway, wear it well, mate! And take care of that Sub.

Cheers,
Spirit.

:)

Though honestly.... gave me quite a heard time figuring it out.

KBH was close !

I put it on my desk and waited to see what would happen - sure enough it died out..
why then was my bureau giving my watch magical powers ???

turns out.. every time I opened and closed the door on my bureau while getting socks, or a shirt.. it would rock ever so slightly.. thus giving it a little power.
then I'd go pick it up because id notice it was ticking..
giving it a little more power.

Then at night when I'd go out - I'd change once again (rocking the bureau again)

Guess that little motion happening twice a day was enough to power the watch for 4 days or so.

ha
I got a good laugh when I finally figured it all out
:)

If you send me the offending watch I can perform an exorcism on it and cast out the demons. If it goes badly and there is nothing I can do for it, do not worry I will dispose of it so that you will no longer have to worry about it. I would do this for you because we are such good friends. :D

Nice detective work, Ex! I like engineers--so logical.

I was afraid though, that the story was going to end that the watch was still ticking because you were having sex regularly on your bureau.
