This is now mid Sept. and while I was in Japan on vacation, as many of you know, in late July, I fell into a water catchment drain in the street and cut my shinbone rather deeply. I cleaned it well and my wife dressed it twice a day. I did not have it seen by medical people until my return to the US ten days later. Anyway I developed a severe staph infection, cellulitis, was hospitalized, and the wound kept on getting bigger and deeper, until a month ago, it was a giant deep hole in my leg. It looked frightening and the surgeon who tended me told me to stuff the hole with gauze and change it twice a day. I got a new doctor last week whose specialty is lower leg and foot matters. He prescribed a differnt treatment and as of today, just a week later, the wound is filled in and very close to healing, although it is still bleeding.
This has been a nightmare. I have not been able to work for two months and the pain and discomfort has been excruciating. It could have been avoided if I had it seen in Japan and was prescribed antibiotics in the begining. Leg injuries in people over 40 are particularly sensitive and can cause complications easily. If you ever get a leg wound, do not let it go and think it will heal by itself if you just keep it clean and dressed. This helps of course, but as a cautionary tale, believe me, these wounds can get out of control and you could even lose a leg. It happens quite often.
I am now finally on the mend and have not been in the mood to post much, but this ordeal is near it's end.
Thanks for reading.
